Job Description SummarySummary Statement:
With recent major investments in quantum by the state of Maryland, the University of Maryland, College Park, will hire multiple tenure-track faculty in experimental quantum science and engineering. Led by the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences and the Clark School of Engineering, all areas of quantum science and engineering will be considered, including quantum computation, simulation, sensing, networking, materials, and devices. The search will target applicants at the Full and Associate Professor levels with a demonstrated track record of leading an active research group. However, exceptional applicants will also be considered at the Assistant Professor level. The positions will reside within the appropriate colleges and departments, including but not limited to Physics, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering. Joint appointments are possible depending on the nature of the research. Applicants are encouraged to apply by August 1, 2025 for best consideration. Applications will continue to be considered until the positions are filled.
UMD faculty members teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students and enjoy research relationships with colleagues across the campus, with fellow University System of Maryland institutions, and with a wide variety of nearby federal labs and entities. UMD is located in the Washington DC metropolitan area, which is home to major national institutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in physics, engineering, computer science or related area.
Preferences:
A strong publication record and the promise for, or a record of, external funding commensurate with rank.
A demonstrated commitment to or history of teaching and mentorship.
