Schmidt Industrial Services is an ~80 year old company with a long reputation of quality and customer service in three distinct business units which comprise of an ASME pressure vessel fabrication shop, a high precision custom machine shop, and a field based industrial coatings business. We have a broad customer base that operate in the oil & gas, chemical, power generation, pharmaceutical, and confectioner industries. 


We are seeking a recent graduate that is looking for a unique job opportunity that will pair your technical degree with on the job equipment design and sales training. The ideal candidate will have a solid academic foundation in engineering, a desire for hands on learning, and an outgoing personality.  


This is a hybrid role that combines technical curiosity, sales aptitude, and a customer-first attitude. You'll assist with quoting, manage inbound requests, work closely with engineering to identify new opportunities, and grow into a customer-facing technical advisor.

Responsibilities: 

Analyzing requirement documents, blueprints, and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project.

Determining what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product.

Preparing material and cost estimates for the product or service in a timely manner.

Creating project labor estimates.

Evaluating suppliers by considering price, quality, availability, and other criteria.

Developing and maintaining relationships with company vendors and contractors.

Managing bids from vendors and contractors.

Using bid data to prepare a detailed cost analysis such as the labor, material, production times, etc.

Gather and negotiate quotes by subcontractors and vendors.

Presenting prepared estimates to management.

Compiling and recording actual costs.

Collaborate with the General Manager, verify capabilities as required.

Reviewing customer purchase orders to verify compliance with the quotation(estimate).

Interacting with suppliers to schedule delivery times.


Financial Management:

Identify opportunities for cost reduction and improve profitability.

Monitor the production hours executed against the estimated hours assigned for each project, to ensure projects are profitable. 


Client Relations:

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, and vendors, while understanding their needs and expectations.

Stay apprised of industry trends and innovations that are applicable to the company to support continuous improvement.



Requirements

Job Qualifications:

Recent graduate (0 - 2 years) with Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and project management principles preferred.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where limited standardization exists.

Competency in fact-based problem solving and analysis.


 Technical requirements:

Ability to read and interpret blueprints preferred

Skilled use of precision measuring tools preferred

General knowledge of material types/grades and their machinability.

Basic computer knowledge including Word, Excel, and CAD programs
