Department Summary:

The mission of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department is toprovide the highest quality clinical care in both general andspecialty Obstetrics and Gynecology to Central Virginia. Inaddition to the clinical mission, the department has the alliedgoals of providing undergraduate and graduate medical education inthe field and advancing the field through basic and clinicalresearch.

The Department faculty has a responsibility to provide service totheir profession and to the University Community.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking candidatesto provide specialty care in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. This positionis designed to provide specialty care in Maternal-Fetal Medicine,including labor and delivery coverage, in- and outpatientconsultation, prenatal diagnosis, ultrasound, management ofhigh-risk pregnancy, and performance of specialty specificprocedures. The position will include participation in student,resident, and fellow education as well as in the department’sclinical research activities.

Teaching

The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities to includeactively participating in the department’s educational activities,with particular attention to educating students, residents, andfellows in their core educational objectives in maternal fetalmedicine.

Research

The person filling the position is expected to initiate researchprojects. They are expected to provide leadership and mentoring toMFM Fellows, Ob/Gyn residents, and medical students engaged inresearch and contribute to scholarlypublications/presentations.

Service

Faculty member will serve on departmental, hospital, and universitycommittees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity intheir field. The maternal fetal medicine specialist will beassigned to committees at the discretion of the division directorand department chair.

Clinical

Full participation in the clinical activities of the maternal fetalmedicine division is expected. Clinical activities are to bedetermined by the Maternal-Fetal Medicine division director but areexpected to include a combination of obstetric clinics, Ob/Gynultrasound, and labor and delivery coverage. Outpatientresponsibilities may be at VCU Medical Center or off-site at thediscretion of the chair and division director.

Other

Participate in department and institutional administrativeactivities as assigned by the division director and departmentchair.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of training in General OB/GYN and Maternal-FetalMedicine equivalent to ACGME and ABOG accredited programs
  • Eligible for Medical license in Virginia
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism, and civility with a population offaculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences,or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an ACGME accredited OB/GYN residency
  • Completion of an ACGME accredited fellowship training programin Maternal-Fetal Medicine
  • Certification by the American Board of OB/GYN in General OB/GYNand Maternal-Fetal Medicine; candidates who completed theirfellowship recently enough that they are not yet eligible to sitfor the exam will considered with the expectation that they takethe certification exams at the earliest opportunity
