Job description

The Administrative Technician I is to provide clerical and administrative support to department/ division staff.  The class is responsible for file maintenance; responding to public inquiries and requests; mail distribution inventory maintenance; document preparation; and data entry.  The class works according to some procedures; decides how and when to do things under general supervision.

KEY FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Answers and redirects phone calls.
  • Creates, revises and edits correspondence and documents such as memos, letter, invoices, reports and/ or announcements.
  • Performs data entry functions.
  • Orders supplies and maintains departmental inventory.
  • Receives and redistributes incoming mail.
  • Issues permits and licenses.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and requests.
  • Maintains and updates filing system.
  • May perform basic accounting functions such as balancing receipts, making bank deposits and recording payments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires High School Diploma or GED, some College preferred
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires minimum three months of work related experience.
  • Proficient in Windows, Word, Power Point and Excel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

Ability to exert up to 35-50 lbs. of force occasionally to lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and routine keyboard operations and involves exerting between 20 and 30 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands, or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
