Job Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Labour Relations and Human Resources, the HR Business Partner (HRBP) acts as a strategic partner to management, providing broad HR support with a strong focus on labour relations. The HRBP oversees designated client groups and supports all stages of the employee lifecycle, including workforce planning, project start-ups, operational expansions into new jurisdictions, workforce transitions, and project wind-down activities. The role includes workplace investigations, union engagement, grievance management, collective bargaining support, and the implementation of people strategies that support operational and organizational objectives. Occasional travel to various sites is required.

The ideal candidate brings extensive labour relations experience, strong relationship-building and problem-solving skills, and the ability to support complex operational environments, including new business mobilizations, workforce transitions, and multi-jurisdictional operations. The HRBP works closely with leaders and the HR team to deliver effective HR solutions that support organizational success.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with client group leadership to deliver HR expertise aligned with organizational culture and strategy, including employee relations, investigations, performance management, recruitment, disability management, disciplinary actions, terminations, and conflict resolution.
  • Oversee assigned client groups, providing strategic HR support for project start-ups, operational expansions into new regions/jurisdictions, workforce mobilizations, transitions, and project wind-down activities.
  • Collaborate with leaders and union representatives to resolve workplace issues, manage grievances (up to arbitration), and participate in collective bargaining negotiations.
  • Interpret and apply collective agreements and policies, ensuring compliance in all HR, human rights, and labour relations activities.
  • Manage layoff and recall processes on behalf of client groups in compliance with collective agreements.
  • Assist with learning and development, performance management, engagement initiatives, and HR projects aligned with business strategy.
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records in the HRIS; collaborate with Payroll, Benefits, and Health & Abilities teams to ensure seamless processes.
  • Travel to various company locations, including remote sites, as required.
  • Support recruitment and onboarding activities for client groups.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience with emphasis on labour relations, grievance handling (including arbitration), workplace investigations, and collective agreement interpretation.
  • Proven ability to partner with leaders and union representatives to resolve workplace issues, manage grievances, and participate in collective bargaining.
  • Experience supporting HR and labour relations matters across multiple jurisdictions, including Canada and United States.
  • Expertise in layoff/recall processes and advising on disciplinary actions, terminations, and conflict resolution.
  • Experience supporting business growth initiatives, operational start-ups, workforce mobilizations, organizational transitions, and workforce reductions is considered a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to support multiple client groups across geographically dispersed and remote operational environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. employment laws, HR best practices.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion.
  • HR certification (e.g., CPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred.
  • Ability to travel to company locations in Canada and the United States, including remote sites, as required; Class 5 Operator's License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French is considered an asset.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and/or facilitating training programs is considered an asset.
