JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
This job level contains the following positions: Athletic Supervisor, Camp Counselor, Front Desk I, Jr. Swim Instructor, Kid Quarters Attendant, Park attendant, and Special Events Staff. Please see the Illustrative Examples of Work section below for more information.
Athletic Supervisor - Responsible for site and event prep and clean up; provides assistance to the public; supervises Athletic Attendants. Has basic knowledge of athletic activities (i.e. archery, basketball, volleyball, baseball, pickleball, softball). Must be at least 18 years old. Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment.
Camp Counselor - Ensures the safety and well-being of all program participants; assists in planning, organizing, and implementation of youth activities; assists in set up, tear down, and clean up of program activities, supplies, and equipment; attends training in order to gain knowledge of current safety rules and departmental policies. Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment.
Front Desk I - At the Recreation Center or Senior Center, answers phone calls, processes registrations and admissions, provides information about memberships, classes, and activities. Basic office and computer skills required.
Gym Supervisor - Responsible for control of the gymnasium during drop-in basketball or other sports. Manage a time clock, flow of players on the court and sign-in sheet. Monitor and correct behavior in accordance with house rules. Must be at least 18 years old.
Jr. Swim Instructor - Assists in the instruction of swim lessons, attends required training classes. Must be at least 15 years old. CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred.
Kid Quarters Attendant - Interacts with children 12 and under by playing games, crafts, reading, etc. while parent(s) is/are in the facility. Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment.
Park Attendant - At assigned parks, cleans park and assists park users, during spring and summer. Must be at least 18 years old. Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment.
Special Events Staff - Assists in planning of programs, activities, and special events; assists participants and the public; works with activity set ups and clean ups.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND APPLICATION PROCESS
  1. Be at least 16 years old (or as specified); and
  2. Be able to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays; and
  3. Have the ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds; and
  4. Have the ability to demonstrate techniques and skills associated with the position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to:
  • Work variable hours
  • Follow established daily operating procedures
  • Assure safety of participants
  • Work effectively with the public and department personnel
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned

NOTE: Advancement to step 1.5 will happen at six months of employment. Advancement to the next step will be considered after one year of employment, if a minimum of 125 hours have been worked and a satisfactory employee evaluation has been obtained.
Temporary employees are not eligible for fringe benefits.
