Job description

Job Summary
The Department of Recreational Services is seeking a student to assist with content creation for various social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok & Facebook). Reporting to the Marketing Coordinator, the Communications Assistant will maintain regular office hours at the Recreation Center to plan, edit and schedule content. There are also opportunities to pursue event planning related projects based on individual strengths, preferences, and interests. This position is slated to begin in late July or early August.
Responsibilities*
  • Create original content for Rec Services, following department social media strategy and U-M branding
  • Work collaboratively with other staff to plan and attend promotion efforts for select areas of Rec Services (fitness & the Recreation Center or intramural & club sports)
  • Support marketing and communication plans with basic videography and photography skills at Recreation events
  • Engage with students and visitors at tabling events to assist them with becoming familiar with Rec Services offerings and wellbeing resources
  • Perform clerical duties and other assigned tasks

Required Qualifications*
  • Enrolled student at UM-Flint
  • Available to work up to 10-15 hours per week
  • Demonstrated proficiency in social media platform usage (personal or business)
  • Outstanding organizational skills, with ability to focus on details
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written) and work independently

Desired Qualifications*
  • Desire to enter communications, marketing or other related field upon degree completion
  • Skilled in basic graphic design, or willingness to learn
  • Flexibility in work schedule to occasionally attend programs & events to take photos/videos

Modes of Work
Hybrid
The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
