In the structural fabrication and construction industries, the duties of a rebar detailer are to create structural drawings or project plans using AutoCAD or another computer-aided design program to describe the specifications for rebar or other steel construction materials in a project. As a rebar detailer, you develop shop drawings, which indicate what types of rebar or structural reinforcements are necessary for a project, whether it is a building construction project or sets of prefabricated components. The drawings include detailed images and explanations of how the builders plan to use rebar. In addition to design rendering responsibilities, your reports include technical specifications for the various types of rebar needed.

Job Description
A rebar detailer performs routine to moderately complex drawings, detailing and other related duties to produce plans necessary for the fabrication and placement of reinforcing steel bars and related accessories in accordance with customer contract documents, industry standards and/or established practices and procedures. The ability to read, understand, and critique architectural and structural blueprints leading to the production of take-offs and material lists is crucial. Detailers use care to ensure the efficient use of materials, fabrication methods and timely delivery of finished products.

Experience and Education
Associates degree in drafting or design a plus. Three years of experience drafting in construction field. Experience and education may be substituted for one another. Ability to read and understand project specifications, drawings, and details required. Some knowledge of concrete and rebar codes is an advantage.
