What is a Realtor?

A realtor assists a client in the purchase, sale, or rental of property, such as commercial buildings, homes, or land. As a realtor, you have a number of duties and responsibilities. Most realtors work on commission, so your primary concern is to attract new clients who want to sell, rent, or buy property and are willing to pay for your assistance in doing so. You perform market research and analysis to determine competitive prices for each listing. You also take your clients to visit properties and assess how their needs can be met within their budget. Realtors also negotiate sales on behalf of their clients and draw up the legal paperwork needed to complete sales.

How much money do most realtors make?

Most realtors earn a commission-based income that varies widely depending on location, experience, and sales volume. According to industry data, the median annual income for real estate agents is around $50,000, but top performers can earn over $100,000 or more annually. Income often depends on the number of transactions completed and the commission rates negotiated.

What is the difference between Realtor vs Real Estate Agent?

AspectRealtorReal Estate Agent
CredentialsMust be a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR)No specific membership required
CertificationRealtor is a trademarked term indicating NAR membershipLicensed professional, but not necessarily a Realtor
Work EnvironmentReal estate offices, open houses, client meetingsSimilar work environments, including offices and property showings
Industry UsageUsed interchangeably in marketing, but Realtor indicates NAR membershipGeneral term for licensed real estate professionals

In summary, all Realtors are real estate agents, but not all real estate agents are Realtors. Realtors have additional credentials through NAR membership, which can signify a commitment to ethical standards and professional development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a realtor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Realtor, you need a deep understanding of real estate laws, local market trends, and strong sales acumen, typically demonstrated by a valid real estate license. Familiarity with MLS databases, CRM software, and digital marketing platforms is essential for managing listings and client relationships. Exceptional interpersonal skills, negotiation abilities, and attention to detail help Realtors build trust and close successful deals. These competencies are crucial for providing excellent client service, maximizing sales opportunities, and ensuring legal compliance in real estate transactions.

What are some common challenges Realtors face when managing multiple clients and how can they effectively prioritize their workload?

Realtors often juggle the needs of several clients at once, from buyers seeking showings to sellers expecting timely updates. Balancing these demands can be challenging, especially during peak market periods. Effective Realtors prioritize tasks by maintaining organized schedules, communicating proactively with clients, and utilizing customer relationship management (CRM) tools to track progress and deadlines. Setting clear expectations and routinely updating clients helps ensure smooth transactions and fosters trust, ultimately leading to better client satisfaction and referrals.

What is a Realtor?

A Realtor is a licensed real estate professional who is a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR), which upholds a strict code of ethics and standards of practice. Realtors help clients buy, sell, and rent properties, and they may also offer advice on market conditions, prices, and mortgages. Unlike generic real estate agents, only members of NAR can use the title 'Realtor.' Working with a Realtor provides clients with expertise and a commitment to ethical service during real estate transactions.

Is a realtor a high paying job?

Realtors can earn high incomes, but their earnings depend on factors such as sales volume, commission rates, and experience. Successful realtors often work in competitive markets and need strong sales skills and industry knowledge to maximize their income.

Recognized as the No. 1 site trusted by real estate professionals, Realtor.com® has been at the forefront of online real estate for over 25 years, connecting buyers, sellers, and renters with trusted insights and expert guidance to find their perfect home. Through its robust suite of tools, Realtor.com® not only makes a significant impact on the real estate industry at large, but for consumers, navigating the biggest purchase they will make in their life, by providing a user experience that is easy to use, easy to understand, and most of all, easy to make decisions.
Join us on our mission to empower more people to find their way home by breaking barriers to entry, making the right connections, and building confidence through expert guidance.
As Realtor.com® continues to grow its client-facing marketing programs and strategic industry partnerships, we need a strong operator who can turn strategy into flawless execution. The Client Marketing team is looking for a Senior Client Marketing Activation Manager to lead the activation engine behind our client marketing programs. This role sits at the intersection of integrated campaign execution, strategic sponsorship activation, and operational excellence. You will ensure our campaigns launch smoothly, our partnerships deliver against their commitments, and our client-facing marketing hub remains a trusted source of truth.
This is a highly cross-functional role for someone who loves bringing order to complexity, thrives in fast-moving environments, and knows how to move work from idea to execution without losing sight of quality, detail, or business impact.
What You'll Do:
Strategic Sponsorship & Partnership Activation
  • Own the end-to-end activation of third-party sponsorships and strategic partnerships, including high-profile industry relationships such as the National Association of REALTORS®.
  • Build and manage activation plans, content calendars, asset delivery timelines, and deliverables tracking to ensure every contractual commitment is fulfilled.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external partners to maximize the value of each sponsorship through thoughtful planning, clear communication, and strong execution.
  • Monitor activation performance, document outcomes, and help identify ways to optimize future partnerships.

Integrated Campaign Program Management
  • Operationalize integrated client marketing campaigns across digital, social, email, web, virtual events, in-person events, and other owned and paid channels.
  • Lead timelines, workflows, stakeholder coordination, and asset delivery across multiple concurrent programs.
  • Partner closely with client marketing leads, Brand Bureau, sales, product, and other cross-functional teams to ensure campaigns are thoughtfully planned, clearly briefed, and executed on time.
  • Serve as a key connector across teams, bringing structure, visibility, and momentum to complex initiatives.

PRO Campaign Hub
  • Serve as the primary orchestrator of the PRO Campaign Hub, Realtor.com®'s centralized client marketing resource portal.
  • Ensure the Hub is continuously maintained, up to date, and positioned to drive client engagement for current campaigns, deliverables, messaging, and resources.
  • Help establish scalable processes, templates, and communications that improve consistency across client marketing programs.

Measurement, Reporting & Optimization
  • Track campaign and partnership performance across key engagement and business metrics.
  • Reconcile sponsorship deliverables against contractual commitments and provide clear reporting on fulfillment and impact.
  • Monitor campaign performance, surface insights, and partner with stakeholders to improve future activations.
  • Help build dashboards, reporting cadences, and lightweight systems that create visibility without adding unnecessary complexity.

AI Enablement & Process Improvement
  • Identify repeatable workflows across campaign management, reporting, and partnership coordination that can be improved through AI and automation.
  • Translate AI capabilities into practical, everyday tools and workflows that increase efficiency, reduce manual work, and improve team speed and consistency.
  • Bring fresh ideas and a continuous-improvement mindset to how Realtor.com activates its brand in the market.

What Success Looks Like:
  • Client marketing campaigns launch on time, across the right channels, with strong coordination and no dropped details.
  • Strategic sponsorships and partnerships are well-managed, fully activated, and consistently deliver against commitments.
  • The PRO Campaign Hub is current, trusted, and useful - making it easier for teams and partners to stay aligned.
  • Cross-functional partners experience you as a reliable, highly organized operator who brings clarity and follow-through to every initiative.
  • Marketing programs and partnership activations generate measurable engagement, partner value, and operational efficiency over time.

How We Work:
We balance creativity and innovation on a foundation of in-person collaboration. For most roles, our employees work three or more days in our offices, where they have the opportunity to collaborate in-person, adding richness to our culture and knitting us closer together.
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of marketing, program management, campaign operations, or related experience, preferably in B2B, SaaS, marketplace, or real estate technology environments.
  • Proven experience managing integrated marketing programs across multiple channels and stakeholders.
  • Experience activating and managing partnerships, sponsorships, or external programs with a strong focus on deliverables, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
  • Exceptional project and program management skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to keep multiple workstreams moving simultaneously.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills and the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Experience with marketing and workflow tools such as Asana, Salesforce, Canva, and other project management, CRM, content creation, or reporting platforms.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to track performance, connect execution to outcomes, and improve programs over time.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • A hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves approach paired with the judgment to prioritize what matters most.
  • Flexibility and adaptability; this role will help shape how client marketing programs operate as the function continues to grow.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support major industry events and activations.

How We Reward You:
Realtor.com® is committed to investing in the health and wellbeing of our employees and their families. Our benefits programs include, but are not limited to:
  • Inclusive and Competitive medical, Rx, dental, and vision coverage
