Realtor Intern information

What is a Realtor Intern?

A Realtor Intern is an individual who is gaining practical experience in the real estate industry under the supervision of a licensed Realtor or real estate broker. Interns typically assist with tasks such as conducting market research, attending property showings, helping with paperwork, and learning about sales and client relations. This role is often designed for students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career as a licensed real estate agent. It provides hands-on training and exposure to various aspects of the real estate business. Completing an internship can be a valuable step toward obtaining a real estate license and building a successful career in real estate.

What tasks and responsibilities does a Realtor Intern handle daily?

As a Realtor Intern, you can expect to assist licensed agents with a variety of tasks such as scheduling property showings, preparing marketing materials, conducting market research, and supporting open house events. You may also help with administrative duties, client communications, and updating listings on MLS platforms. This hands-on experience will give you valuable insight into client management, property transactions, and the fast-paced nature of the real estate industry, all while working closely with experienced professionals who can mentor you.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a Realtor Intern?

To thrive as a Realtor Intern, you need a basic understanding of real estate principles, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to pursue or obtain a real estate license. Familiarity with Multiple Listing Service (MLS) platforms, customer relationship management (CRM) tools, and digital marketing systems is highly beneficial. Outstanding communication, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude help you build client relationships and adapt to a fast-paced environment. These skills and qualities are crucial for supporting licensed agents, learning the industry, and preparing for a successful real estate career.

Job description

Acadia Realty Trust (NYSE: AKR) is an equity real estate investment trust focused on delivering long-term, profitable growth. Acadia owns and operates a high-quality real estate portfolio of street and open-air retail properties in the nation's most dynamic retail corridors (“REIT Portfolio”), along with an investment management platform that targets opportunistic and value-add investments through its institutional co-investment vehicles (“Investment Management”). For further information, please visit www.acadiarealty.com.

Acadia is seeking a qualified, highly motivated intern to join its Summer Rotational Internship Program, a 10-week experience designed to give a small group of top candidates cross-functional exposure to the full lifecycle of a commercial real estate deal. The rotational intern will spend dedicated time with four core teams: Acquisitions, Asset Management, Development, and Leasing. Interns will gain a comprehensive, end-to-end view of how Acadia sources, underwrites, manages, improves, and leases retail-focused commercial real estate.

Each rotational intern is paired with a dedicated program mentor for the duration of the program, along with a rotation lead within each department, who together provide guidance, feedback, and career development support throughout the summer.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Over 10 weeks, the intern will rotate through departments in approximately 2–3 week increments, working in a fast-paced team environment on live deal and asset-level work. The rotation concludes with a capstone presentation to senior leadership synthesizing what the intern learned across all four teams and how those functions connect.
