Job description

Role: Technical Services Specialist - Broadcast Technology
Location: NewYork
Department: Customer Solutions and Services
Reports to: Director, Technical Services (based in LA)

ABOUT THE ROLE

This person will be a specialist for delivering Disguise projects across our Broadcast and XR customers. The Technical Services Specialist (Broadcast) will work across various platforms, primarily LED stages and mixed reality technologies, helping us achieve our clients' creative vision through our technical acumen.

The Technical Services Specialist will primarily support the ESPN HQ in Bristol, CT, and the 7 Hudson Studio in NYC. This position requires an in-depth, hands-on understanding of various disguise workflows, including xR, VP, DMX, and RenderStream.

This person will collaborate alongside Disguise's solutions designers, creative services, project managers, engineers, third-party vendors, and most importantly, the customer - ensuring projects are implemented successfully; on time, to scope, within budget, and exceeding their expectations. The Technical Services Specialist will be experienced at collaborating with internal and external stakeholders across multiple regions and time zones.

The Technical Services Specialist will need to be based in NYC but will also be required to travel in response to global project demand. Both domestic and international travel is required (roughly once a month), and sometimes at short notice, where you will be onsite at the client for roughly 1-2 weeks per project

This person will play a pivotal role at Disguise as the gateway between our technology, the customer, and their audience's visual experience.

What you will do:

  • ESPN Support
    • Bi-annual maintenance: You will collaborate with ESPN's technical team to update and test the system. This involves updating the disguise system to the latest OS, D3 designer build, IPVFC firmware, and the newest version of the Renderstream plugin.
    • License Updates & General Support Duties: You will assist the ESPN team with the RenderStream license update process and provide ongoing system-related support. This includes conducting system health checks, offering workflow guidance, delivering bespoke training, and providing last-minute firefighting support when critical issues arise.
  • While your primary focus will be supporting ESPN and other NYC-based clients, you will also have the opportunity to work on diverse projects across virtual production, immersive experiences, and fixed installations. If you do not have direct experience in these secondary industries, Disguise will provide the necessary training to get you up to speed.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Broadcast Engineering Expertise: 3+ years of experience installing, configuring, and maintaining complex broadcast technical systems and control interfaces. This includes hardware, software, and key third-party platforms (e.g., Ross, Grass Valley, Sony).
  • Live Production Background: Proven experience working inside high-pressure Sports, Live Events, and News broadcasting environments.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting technical gear essential to broadcast production, including professional cameras, production switchers, and robust networking infrastructure.
  • Client-Facing Deployment: Comfortable traveling to and working directly on-site at client facilities, serving as the face of the technical team.
  • Modern Video Standards: Strong working knowledge of IP video standards, specifically SMPTE ST 2110.
  • Industry Trend Aware: A keen interest in and up-to-date knowledge of the latest advancements across the Broadcast, xR, and Virtual Production landscapes.

BEHAVIOURS & VALUES:

  • Adaptability: A passion for learning new technologies; we will provide additional training in specialized areas like virtual production and immersive experiences as needed.
  • Ideally working 4+ days per week out of the Disguise office.
  • Anybody joining Disguise should embody the following attributes:
    • Driven, proactive, and passionate about project design and delivery
    • Accountable and dependable, a team player who takes accountability and asks for help when needed
    • Dynamic and quick to respond to changes, works well under pressure, and with other teams
    • No Ego: Win for the team and for our customers

This is the the basic salary range for U.S. based candidates
