Senior Accountant

Location: North York, Toronto, ON 

Employment Type: Full-Time, In-Office 

Salary Range: $90,000 – $110,000 CAD, commensurate with experience

About the Opportunity:

Our client is a well-established and growing organization in the residential development and real estate sector, seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join their finance team based in North York, Toronto. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting professional looking to take on greater ownership of month-end processes, project/development accounting, and reporting within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP/IFRS
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
  • Oversee general ledger accounting and ensure accuracy of financial records
  • Assist with the preparation of audit schedules and liaise with external auditors
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Track and report on project/development costs, including land, hard, and soft costs across multiple active projects
  • Support construction draw requests, loan reporting, and lender compliance requirements
  • Assist with work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and job costing analysis
  • Reconcile intercompany transactions across related development entities/joint ventures
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff
  • Assist with tax filings and coordination with external tax advisors as needed
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with development, project management, and legal teams to support financial decision-making

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • CPA, CGA, CMA, or equivalent professional designation preferred (or actively pursuing)
  • Minimum 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within real estate, development, or construction
  • Experience with project/job costing, WIP reporting, and multi-entity/joint venture structures an asset
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and internal control frameworks
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems)
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with financial reporting tools an asset
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities under deadlines
