Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the Credit Union's consumer and real estate lending services. Ensures that lending operations are in accordance with established policies, procedures, and legal requirements. Ensures that lending activities maximize profit for the Credit Union and maintain a strong sales culture. Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of lending services including maintaining strong asset quality while managing delinquency and charge off ratios. Supervises and appraises the activities of subordinate managers and ensures that all lending services are professionally delivered and members are well served.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

1. Assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of effective Lending planning.

a. Assists Senior Management with long and short-term Credit Union planning. Develops a consumer and real estate lending strategy for the Credit Union.

b. Participates in developing lending policies and procedures and ensures that they complement organizational goals.

c. Executes established goals and coordinates their implementation with other departments and with subordinates.

d. Develops and manages policies and procedures for loan activities. Conducts periodic reviews of existing systems and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and legal compliance. Instigates improvements in lending and promotion practices that will further the objectives of the credit union.

e. Collaborates with leadership to develop a lending strategic plan with strategic initiatives that align with organizational goals, identifies opportunities for continuous improvement, and recommends solutions that support long-term growth, operational excellence, and organizational success.

2. Ensures the effective performance of lending related services.

a. Ensures that lending activities are conducted in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards, and are properly documented.

b. Conducts periodic reviews of existing policies to ensure effectiveness. Ensures that policies are updated and are in accordance with evolving regulations, legal requirements, and industry trends.

c. Ensures the maintenance of statistics relative to loans issued, report data, delinquency follow-up, etc.

d. Assume overall responsibility for the success of consumer loan portfolios, including underwriting, structuring, and closing loans. Develop new business relationships and maintain existing ones.

e. Assists members with lending needs. Interviews, underwrites and closes loans as needed by members and employees.

f. Research and evaluate feasibility of new lending products and delivery channels to increase loan penetration and growth

3. Assumes responsibility for the effective administration of lending functions.

a. Manages and oversees expenses. Pursues cost-saving measures.

b. Keeps Senior Management informed of loan activities, progress toward established objectives, and of any significant problems.

c. Completes required reports and related documents promptly and accurately, and in compliance with Credit Union guidelines and policies. Ensures the maintenance of department records.

d. Ensures compliance with consumer lending laws and regulations.

e. Attends meetings as required.

4. Effectively supervises personnel, ensuring optimal performance.

a. Provides leadership to assigned personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication.

b. Conducts staff meetings as required and informs personnel of policy and procedure changes. Assigns, directs, and coordinates work.

c. Ensures that personnel are well trained, effective, and work efficiently. Instructs personnel regarding policy, procedure, and program changes and ensures that they are well informed regarding related legal and regulatory developments.

d. Conducts performance appraisals as required. Formulates and implements corrective actions as needed.

e. Works closely with Human Resources to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained to support operational needs. Conducts interviews and assist with hiring as needed.

f. Meet or exceed goals and objectives established for all lending areas. Maintain growth, yield, delinquency, charge off, and ancillary sales per goals set by CEO. Establish and provide support for lenders to achieve goals and objectives.

5. Assumes responsibility for ensuring that professional business relationships are established and maintained with members, vendors, the business community, and trade organizations.

a. Ensures that members are properly informed of Credit Union loan policies and procedures.

b. Ensures that requests, problems, and questions are promptly resolved to maintain high member satisfaction.

c. Ensures that the Credit Union's professional reputation is maintained throughout lending and business transactions with members.

6. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

a. Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.

b. Stays informed regarding developments and changes in lending services.

c. Cross-sells Credit Union services.
