A typical day for a Reading Corps member involves working one-on-one or in small groups with students to deliver structured literacy interventions, tracking their progress, and adjusting instruction based on each student's needs. Members frequently collaborate with teachers and school staff to coordinate schedules and discuss student growth. In addition to direct tutoring, you may participate in training sessions, complete documentation, and assist with school-wide literacy events. The role is dynamic and rewarding, allowing you to directly impact students' reading skills and confidence throughout the school year.

To thrive as a Reading Corps member, you should possess a solid understanding of literacy development, basic educational techniques, and usually a high school diploma or equivalent, with some positions preferring college coursework in education or related fields. Familiarity with structured reading intervention programs, digital assessment tools, and progress tracking systems is beneficial. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a passion for working with children are essential soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure effective support for student learning and foster a positive, motivating environment that encourages reading success.
What is a Reading Corps?

Members serve in schools or community programs, using research-based interventions to help students become confident readers. This role is often part of an AmeriCorps program, where participants receive training, a stipend, and an education award upon completion of service. It's a great opportunity for those passionate about education and mentorship.
