What is a React Native Engineer?

A React Native Engineer is a software developer who specializes in building mobile applications using React Native, a popular framework developed by Meta. They write JavaScript and TypeScript code to create cross-platform apps that run on both iOS and Android with a single codebase. Their responsibilities often include designing UI components, managing state, integrating third-party libraries, and optimizing app performance. They work closely with designers, backend developers, and product teams to ensure smooth user experiences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a React Native Engineer?

To thrive as a React Native Engineer, you need a strong grasp of JavaScript, React Native frameworks, mobile UI/UX design principles, and cross-platform app development, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, integrated development environments (IDEs), and continuous integration tools is also important. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and teamwork make candidates stand out in collaborative, agile environments. These competencies are crucial for delivering high-quality, scalable mobile applications and for seamless collaboration with designers and backend developers.

What are some common challenges faced by React Native Engineers on a daily basis?

React Native Engineers often encounter challenges such as debugging cross-platform compatibility issues, ensuring optimal app performance on both iOS and Android devices, and keeping up with frequent updates in the React Native ecosystem. They may also face difficulties integrating native modules or third-party libraries, which sometimes require a deeper understanding of native code (Java, Swift, or Objective-C). Working closely with designers and backend teams to ensure UI consistency and seamless user experience is another key aspect of the role. Overcoming these challenges requires adaptability, continuous learning, and strong collaboration skills, making each day varied and intellectually stimulating.

Job description

Job title: Sr. React Native Engineer

Location: Frisco TX, Atlanta GA, Overland Park KS - Hybrid role (3 days onsite/week)

Duration: 6 months

We’re looking for a senior, hands‑on React Native Engineer to build and maintain high‑impact mobile flows within the Client application. In this highly visible role, you will partner closely with native iOS and Android engineering chapters to deliver seamless, production‑ready experiences and help shape the transition from native to hybrid mobile development where it makes the most sense. This is an ideal opportunity for a self‑sufficient engineer who thrives in complex environments, takes ownership, and enjoys turning polished designs into intuitive mobile experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, test, and ship production‑grade React Native features within the Client mobile application.
  • Partner with native iOS and Android teams across multiple engineering chapters to identify candidate flows for React Native implementation.
  • Help manage and support the transition of selected mobile experiences from native to hybrid architecture.
  • Translate Figma designs into pixel‑accurate, performant, production‑ready user interfaces.
  • Collaborate across engineering and product stakeholders to ensure high‑quality mobile experiences aligned to business goals.
  • Operate as a senior individual contributor with minimal oversight in a high‑visibility client program.
  • Drive clean code practices, scalable component design, and maintainable mobile architecture.
  • Troubleshoot issues across the React Native stack and work effectively within a broader native mobile ecosystem.
  • Contribute to delivery acceleration by leveraging approved in‑house coding agents and engineering tools where appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Experience 6+ years in React Native is required.
  • Experience in using AI tools Claude, Git copilot, Cursor or similar tools. Experience in development life cycle is preferred.
  • Senior‑level, hands‑on experience building and shipping React Native applications in production environments.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
  • Solid understanding of mobile application architecture, development lifecycle, testing, release management, and production support.
  • Experience working closely with native iOS and Android teams in shared mobile environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own features and deliver with minimal direction.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Must be based in the U.S. and able to work onshore in a time zone that overlaps with the core team.
  • Experience shipping hybrid native/React Native applications strongly preferred.
  • Experience converting native iOS or Android features into React Native solutions preferred.
  • Telecom industry experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with reading and implementing from Figma designs is a plus.
