JOB SUMMARY

The Commissioning Director (CD) oversees multiple projects and execution, develops internal standards, leads training of new commissioning managers, audits performance, and supports strategic planning. The CD represents reliable controls corporation (RCC) in client/partner forums and technical panels. This role requires domestic and international travel to client sites and project locations up to 80%.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversees commissioning across multiple projects and client portfolios
  • Mentors Commissioning Managers and audits execution practices
  • Defines standards, checklists, and quality requirements for startup delivery
  • Ensures standardization across projects to RCC standards and in alignment with external benchmarks
  • Leads resource planning, crisis response, and vendor onboarding
  • Supports strategic growth in client and regional commissioning capacity
KEY COMPETENCIES
  • Commitment to Safety: Demonstrates awareness of safety protocols and consistently follows company health and safety program and industry safety procedures.
  • Program Oversight & Multi-Project Management: Leads commissioning execution across multiple projects or client portfolios. Ensures consistency in delivery, risk management, and performance across all projects under their purview. Supports project-specific leadership with guidance on execution strategy, resource allocation, and client alignment. Provides senior-level oversight of integrated testing, turnover, and closeout processes.
  • Standards Development & Governance: Drives the development and implementation of RCC’s commissioning standards, templates, checklists, and procedures. Establishes quality benchmarks and execution protocols that apply across regions and project types. Ensures alignment with industry best practices and regulatory expectations through periodic reviews and audits.
  • Performance Auditing & Execution Assurance: Conducts regular audits of project-level commissioning execution to ensure compliance with RCC standards and client expectations. Reviews performance metrics, test documentation quality, punch list closure rates, and turnover accuracy. Provides coaching and feedback to project teams and intervenes where systemic issues are identified.
  • Leadership Development & Mentorship: Mentors Commissioning Managers and Senior Commissioning Managers to develop leadership capability, execution consistency, and client-facing excellence. Leads onboarding and technical training programs for new commissioning personnel. Fosters a high-performance culture with a focus on accountability, growth, and innovation. May manage up to 9 direct reports.
  • Client Representation & Strategic Communication: Serves as RCC’s senior commissioning representative in client forums, partner working groups, and technical advisory panels. Provides strategic input on regional commissioning capacity, pipeline alignment, and execution risks. Builds and sustains long‑term client relationships by demonstrating thought leadership, integrity, and reliability.
  • Strategic Planning & Organizational Support: Supports business development and strategic planning efforts. Provides insight on workforce capacity, vendor engagement, and execution readiness to senior leadership. Assists in developing scalable delivery models for expanding market sectors or geographic regions.
  • Crisis Response & Operational Resilience: Leads cross-project response efforts during schedule delays, vendor failures, resource shortages, or technical crises. Provides executive direction and resource reallocation to maintain project continuity and protect RCC’s reputation. Coaches project teams through recovery strategies and operational pivots.
  • Professionalism & Communication: Maintains a respectful and team-oriented attitude. Communicates effectively and seeks feedback to improve clarity and understanding.
  • Adaptability & Growth: Willing to take on new challenges, adapt to dynamic project needs, and actively seek learning opportunities. Open to feedback and demonstrates accountability in decision‑making.
  • Supervision Level: Operates with full accountability for oversight of project commissioning teams. Interfaces directly with Project Managers and Commissioning Managers and C‑suite.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Due to the inherent hazards of active industrial, mining, and energy construction sites — including elevated work, confined spaces, moving heavy equipment, and exposure to hazardous materials — this position is designated safety‑sensitive. Employees must be able to meet applicable site safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), and physical qualification standards required by RCC and its clients to work safely in these environments without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of themselves or others.

Environment may include:

  • Extreme temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture
  • Slippery and/or uneven surfaces, in confined spaces; and at heights.
  • Hours of operation and employee schedules vary based on each project and may require irregular or extended hours and travel for project completion.
  • Travel, including both domestic and international.
  • Frequent standing, occasional bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, balancing, and reaching.
  • Exposure to noise, vibrations, well‑treating chemicals, glycol, methanol, gasoline, natural gas, and liquid hydrocarbons.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in relevant field (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Industrial Technology)
  • 15+ years of field experience in heavy industry to include commissioning activities.
  • Experience leading teams in the field
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Teams)
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
  • This position requires frequent travel, estimated up to 80%, including both domestic and international assignments.
  • Candidates must have the flexibility to travel on short notice and for extended durations, including weekends as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • A valid driver’s license is required for travel to job sites
  • Candidates must also possess, or be eligible to obtain, a passport and any required travel visas to support global operations.
