What are RBTs (Registered Behavior Technicians) and what do they do?

Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) are paraprofessionals who implement behavior analysis services under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). RBTs work primarily with individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities to help them develop social, communication, and daily living skills. Their duties include following treatment plans, collecting data on client progress, and assisting with behavior reduction strategies. RBTs play a crucial role in supporting clients and families as part of a therapy team.

What are some common challenges faced by Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) working in island or remote settings?

RBTs working on islands or in remote areas may encounter unique challenges such as limited access to ongoing professional development, fewer local colleagues for collaboration, and potential resource constraints when implementing behavior intervention plans. Additionally, travel between client locations can be more time-consuming, and there may be increased responsibility for independent problem-solving. However, many RBTs in these settings find the close-knit communities rewarding and develop strong relationships with clients and families.
