The Tactical Radars and Effectors department within Raytheon Hardware Engineering supports the development, production, and deployment of multiple defense products including radars, missiles, command and control systems, and naval electronics. The products support US Government and international customers.

This Mechanical Engineer I will support the Sentinel radar product line and sensors based in Fullerton, CA and may require domestic and international travel to suppliers. This position will be an onsite role; Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite.

What You Will Do:

  • Working within a team environment to develop innovative mechanical subsystems with solid modeling practices and drawing creation using CAD tools such as Creo Parametric, Solidworks, or equivalent
  • Develop preliminary sketches, diagrams, and other engineering information to generate 3-D design models and/or conceptual designs
  • Exposure to solid modeling practices and drawing creation using CAD tools such as Creo Parametric, Solidworks, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes, capabilities and limitations
  • Support Mechanical Engineering solutions on production issues to functional leadership and engagement for resources (Subject Matter Experts, etc.) to resolve production issues rapidly and efficiently
  • Support functional team leads for the integration efforts across the Cross Product Teams in the Sentinel portfolio to ensure successful system design, integration, production and program execution

What You Will Learn:

  • Understanding of and disciplined application of tools / processes / approaches / instructions across the radar product life cycle
  • Provide radar technical data package (TDP) support that includes design, development, manufacturing, and failure investigation solutions
  • Participant in the Engineering changes process, peer review process, Engineering Documentation Standards (EDS) implementation, Configuration Control Board (CCB) participant as required by RTX command media
  • Supports program growth and technology insertion strategies working closely with the functional leaders, program technical leadership, and Program Office.
  • Supports Mechanical leads for planning and execution of production programs, lateral product applications, and Engineering Changes.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Demonstrated mechanical engineering design knowledge
  • Exposure to product lifecycle stages of a radar production program
  • Experience resolving technical challenges
  • Position requires a minimum of 25% of travel to suppliers and production facilities which include domestic and international travel.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or hardware system design.
  • Willing to work in a factory supporting full-rate production of sensors, radar components and assemblies.
  • Willing to work remotely with suppliers that manufacture machined parts, panels, and electronics.
  • Exposure to manufacturing and tolerancing mechanisms.
  • Exposure to ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T (Geometric Dimension and Tolerances).
  • Strong CAD, technical writing and oral communication skills.

The salary range for this role is 62,900 USD - 119,700 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
