Job description

HVAC Construction Manager – Columbus, OHAbout the Role

We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to oversee commercial construction and refrigeration-related projects for large retail and grocery environments. This individual will lead multiple concurrent projects from planning through completion while ensuring schedules, budgets, safety standards, and quality expectations are consistently met.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience managing construction operations, estimating, subcontractor coordination, project execution, and client communication within commercial construction environments. Experience supporting supermarket refrigeration or cold-chain projects is highly preferred.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage commercial construction projects from pre-construction through closeout
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, timelines, budgets, and resource planning
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, field teams, and internal stakeholders
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs, estimates, proposals, and project cost analysis
  • Manage bidding, negotiations, contract administration, and procurement activities
  • Track project progress and provide regular status updates regarding budget, schedules, risks, and change orders
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget
  • Conduct site visits to monitor quality, production, compliance, and safety standards
  • Drive overall jobsite safety initiatives, PPE compliance, and equipment safety practices
  • Identify and resolve project issues proactively while escalating concerns when necessary
  • Facilitate communication between cross-functional teams, clients, and leadership
  • Support forecasting, planning, and departmental operational improvements
  • Assist in managing multiple simultaneous projects and shifting priorities effectively

Key Qualifications
  • 5+ years of construction management experience within commercial construction environments
  • 2+ years of estimating experience preferred
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent commercial projects
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, subcontractor management, and construction documentation
  • Previous experience leading cross-functional teams and coordinating field operations
  • OSHA 30 Certification required
  • EPA Certification preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Project, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with supermarket refrigeration, HVAC, cold storage, or grocery retail construction environments is highly preferred
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Proven ability to deliver projects under tight deadlines and changing priorities
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and work in active construction environments as needed
