The Raw Materials Director is responsible for the procurement of a wide variety of base petrochemical and inorganic raw materials used by a broad range of Evonik Business Lines in North America.

The core tasks of the Raw Materials Director include developing, implementing, and coordinating Procurement strategies within the purchasing organization and with internal users of the assigned raw material baskets. Many of these raw materials are highly strategic for Evonik, so the incumbent is expected to have excellent business acumen.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Accountable for the sourcing of a defined set of raw materials in North America.
  • Work with all Stakeholders to develop sourcing strategies for key raw materials in alignment with Procurement and Corporate goals. Anticipate and manage sourcing barriers and issues; manage spend and find savings.
  • Develop and support negotiation strategies and competence.
  • Maintain communication with key partners inside and outside the various BL organizations that consume the defined set of raw materials.
  • Responsible to understand and balance the interests, capabilities and needs of these partners as stakeholders in the sourcing of products. These partners include but are not limited to the operations and business management teams; the respective Business Line supply chain teams; and the various Global Lead Buyers as a source of information and expertise in sources and compliance requirements.
  • Create and implement formal written strategies for select high-impact raw materials, in alignment with all key internal stakeholders with a focus on medium- and long-term improvements
  • Develop appropriate supply chain risk management strategies for all raw materials that addresses sources of potential disruption to operations and minimizes these risks while balancing good management of expense and working capital.
  • Identify and act on synergies with other Procurement Units within Evonik.
REQUIREMENTS
  • An undergraduate degree required; a degree in Engineering or Chemistry disciplines preferred.
  • MBA or equivalent financial experience preferred.
  • More than 10 years procurement or related commercial experience. Business Line / commercial experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of strategic sourcing and purchasing goods and services.
  • Broad functional and strong interpersonal skills combined with strong negotiating and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient at building and maintaining business relationships with strong communication skills (verbal and written; rapid understanding of complex structures.
  • Ability to effectively plan and manage multiple tasks and/or initiatives simultaneously
  • Strong work ethic and high level of integrity.
  • Knowledge of business law, contract preparation experience accounting principles, ISO, RC initiatives.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications especially Excel and demonstrated analytical skills. General ability to navigate within SAP or another ERP system preferred.
  • Willingness to travel to Evonik suppliers and plant locations, industry conferences and other events as required.
Summary Compensation & Benefits:

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. (Specific rate to be determined, but not limited to, geographic location, education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data).

PayRange: $123,500 - $223,600
