How much do raspberry pi developer jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 14, 2026, the average hourly pay for raspberry pi developer in the United States is $61.49, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $55.29 and $68.03 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does a Raspberry Pi Developer do?

A Raspberry Pi Developer specializes in creating software and hardware solutions using the Raspberry Pi, a small and affordable computer popular for prototyping and educational projects. Their work often involves programming in languages like Python or C++, integrating sensors and peripherals, and developing applications for IoT, automation, robotics, or multimedia projects. They may also design and build custom hardware interfaces or troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Raspberry Pi Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Raspberry Pi Developer, you need strong programming skills (often in Python, C/C++, or JavaScript), experience with Linux-based operating systems, and a solid understanding of hardware interfaces and electronics. Familiarity with the Raspberry Pi platform, GPIO pin management, and tools like SSH, as well as relevant certifications in embedded systems or IoT, are highly valuable. Creativity, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help developers design innovative solutions and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. These skills are crucial for building reliable, scalable projects and maximizing the capabilities of Raspberry Pi in real-world applications.

What are some common challenges Raspberry Pi Developers face when integrating hardware and software components?

Raspberry Pi Developers often encounter challenges related to hardware-software integration, such as ensuring compatibility between various sensors, peripherals, and the Raspberry Pi operating system. Troubleshooting connectivity issues, driver support, and power management are also common hurdles. Effective communication with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers and software developers, is crucial to identify and resolve integration issues efficiently. Staying current with the latest updates and community-supported libraries can help mitigate some of these challenges.

What is the difference between Raspberry Pi Developer vs Arduino Developer?

AspectRaspberry Pi DeveloperArduino Developer
Required CredentialsBasic programming skills, Linux knowledge, sometimes certifications in embedded systemsBasic electronics, programming skills, often no formal certification required
Work EnvironmentLinux-based systems, software development, prototyping projectsHardware-focused, embedded systems, electronics prototyping
Industry UsageIoT, robotics, home automation, educationEmbedded devices, sensor projects, DIY electronics

Raspberry Pi Developers focus on software development and Linux-based projects using the Raspberry Pi platform, while Arduino Developers primarily work on hardware and embedded electronics with Arduino boards. Both roles share some skills but differ in their focus on software versus hardware development.

Job description

Who we are

At Lab37 we hire builders, people who are wired to create, troubleshoot, and improveย systems as a default behavior, not just a job description. The signal we look for is genuine craft:ย candidates who can explain why they prefer certain tools, processes, or technologies becauseย they've used them enough to develop informed opinions, not borrowed ones. Just as important, we hire for humility and learning velocity-people who actively seek feedback, take input without ego, and can pivot quickly when new information or a better idea emerges. We want teammates who treat iteration as a strength: change isn't a threat, it's how better products get built.

We prioritize exceptional individual contributors and keep the organization "maker-led":ย management is not a separate career track, it's an earned responsibility. The strongest makersย become team leads because they set the standard, mentor others, and still stay close to the work. Culturally, we don't tolerate hierarchy-by-distance, no task is beneath anyone, and leadership means doing whatever the team needs, especially the unglamorous work. This creates a high-trust, high-ownership environment where people collaborate naturally, learn fast, and want to keep coming back because they're building alongside a crew that raises their game.

What you'll do

As a Hardware Test Engineer at Lab37 Robotics, you will design, execute, and automate tests that prove out our system per NSF requirements and are reliable, and durable in real kitchens. You'll translate food safety standard and operational best practices into clear test requirements, build fixtures and rigs (often with Raspberry Pi/Arduino or similar), and instrument systems with temperature, humidity, and other environmental sensors. Your work will uncover failure modes, validate component lifecycles, and drive design improvements that elevate product quality and guest experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Convert food safety and regulatory requirements into testable specifications, acceptance criteria, and traceable test plans/protocols.
  • Design and build test fixtures/rigs using Raspberry Pi/Arduino (or similar) for sensor logging, control, and automation.
  • Execute environmental, thermal, humidity, ingress, cleaning/chemical exposure, wear/abrasion, and lifecycle/MTBF tests; analyze results and document findings.
  • Develop automated data-logging and reporting for temperature/humidity profiles, duty cycles, etc.
  • Run component and subsystem endurance testing (motors, augers, valves, seals, electronics) to characterize failure modes and recommend design or supplier changes.
  • Partner with engineering and supply chain to resolve issues and conduct root-cause analysis.
  • Maintain lab safety, calibration, and test asset management; publish test reports.

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years in hardware/product validation or test engineering (or equivalent hands-on experience) with proven fixture building and lab skills.
  • Hands-on with Raspberry Pi/Arduino or similar, integrating temperature/humidity and related sensors.
  • Experience designing and executing environmental and lifecycle tests (thermal/humidity, ingress/cleaning exposure, durability).

What else you need to know

Our work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and fulfilling work. We believe that a stimulating and enjoyable workplace is key to driving innovation and achieving excellence. At Lab37 Robotics, every team member plays a vital role in shaping the future of food production, and we are committed to supporting our employees' growth and success. We are looking for best in class for both talent and work ethic and provide benefits and pay to match.

Join us at Lab37 Robotics and be a part of a forward-thinking company that's transforming the way the world approaches food production.

The base salary range for this role is $120,000 - $170,000 per year.

Actual compensation will be determined on an individual basis and may vary depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package. You may also be eligible for equity awards and an annual performance-based bonus.

Benefits Summary (USA Full-Time Exempt Employees):

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (multiple plans, incl. HSA options).
  • Company-paid life and disability insurance (short- and long-term).
  • Voluntary insurance: accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity.
  • Optional supplemental life insurance for self, spouse, and children.
  • Pet insurance discount.
  • 401(k).
  • Health Savings Account (HSA).
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (Healthcare, Dependent Care, Commuter).
  • Time Off policies:
    • Discretionary vacation days
    • 8 paid holidays per year
    • Paid sick time
    • Paid Bereavement leave
    • Paid Parental Leave

Benefits are subject to change at the company's discretion.
Atoms accepts applications on an ongoing basis.
