Range controllers are professionals responsible for managing and overseeing the safe operation of firing ranges, often in military, law enforcement, or civilian training environments. They coordinate range activities, ensure compliance with safety protocols, and monitor all personnel and equipment during exercises or live-fire events. Their duties may also include setting up targets, maintaining communication with participants, and responding to emergencies. A range controller plays a key role in preventing accidents and ensuring that all range activities run smoothly and safely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a range controller, and why are they important?

Familiarity with radio communication systems, range management software, and incident reporting tools is typically required. Strong decision-making, attention to detail, and clear communication are vital soft skills for coordinating activities and ensuring safety on the range. These skills and qualifications are crucial for maintaining a safe environment, preventing accidents, and ensuring smooth range operations.
