What is a ranch manager?

A ranch manager is a farm professional who is responsible for the daily operations on a ranch. Ranch managers raise, care for, and in some cases, oversee the slaughter of livestock. They may also maintain machinery and structures that house animals, as well as purchase feed, equipment, and supplies. Ranch managers must also ensure that all animals are being raised to meet market standards and applicable regulations.

What does a ranch manager do?

A Ranch Manager oversees the daily operations of a ranch, which may include managing livestock, crops, staff, equipment, and budgeting. They are responsible for the health and productivity of animals, maintenance of facilities, and often handle purchasing, sales, and marketing of ranch products. Ranch Managers may also implement breeding programs, ensure compliance with regulations, and address environmental concerns such as land conservation. Their role is crucial to the profitability and sustainability of the ranch.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a ranch manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Ranch Manager, you need strong knowledge of livestock management, pasture maintenance, and business operations, often supported by a degree in agriculture or animal science. Familiarity with ranch management software, equipment maintenance, and regulatory compliance is typically required. Leadership, problem-solving, and effective communication are critical soft skills for overseeing staff and coordinating daily operations. These skills and qualities are essential for ensuring the ranch runs efficiently, sustainably, and profitably.

What are some common challenges ranch managers face in balancing livestock health with budget constraints?

Ranch Managers often need to make strategic decisions that ensure the health and productivity of their livestock while staying within tight budgetary limits. This includes prioritizing expenditures on feed, veterinary care, and equipment maintenance, as well as adapting to fluctuations in market prices and weather conditions. Effective Ranch Managers regularly monitor herd health, implement preventive care, and seek cost-efficient solutions, all while maintaining compliance with safety and environmental regulations. This is a dynamic, hands-on role that requires strong cross-functional partnership, strong communication skills, a commitment to service excellence, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

You will be part of a small but dedicated team serving some of the top leaders within Netflix, supporting programs that have a meaningful impact on our culture and leadership development. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Serve as primary liaison with the Leadership Programs team and Netflix event stakeholders, managing all aspects of the event planning process from initial inquiry to execution. Manage the Annual Ranch Event Calendar, including scheduling, changes, and additions to ensure maximum and thoughtful utilization of the Ranch.

Oversee Ranch Agenda preparation for each event and work closely with the Venue Specialist to ensure a seamless transition from planning to execution. Lead weekly event review meetings to ensure all events are thoroughly planned and all vendors are prepared. Lead weekly debrief meetings, and compile and analyze data to drive continuous improvement.

Provide high-level oversight and onsite support during events, including monitoring programming, activities, and guest experience. Fill in to support the Operations Specialist as Manager on Duty (MOD) when needed. Manage the collection of attendee and planner feedback following each event, translating insights into actionable solutions and process improvements.

Directly oversee the Transportation vendor and key logistical partners including Website and Graphics, ensuring the highest standards of quality. Create and distribute the Sendero Ranch newsletter to keep stakeholders informed of key developments and highlights. Oversee and coordinate vendor relationships to successfully execute event details and maintain an exceptional guest experience.

Manage the development, ongoing maintenance, and regular updating of all event planning documentation and resource materials. Oversee and optimize event management systems and procedures to maintain peak operational performance and facilitate more effective workflows. Act as the Ranch's lead cross-functional partner for Leadership Programs, Executive/Administrative Assistants, and the Integration Office.

Proactively seek opportunities to enhance venue efficiency and operational performance, offering strategic insights to leadership and partners to refine the Ranch environment and our processes. POSITION REQUIREMENTS 5+ years of event planning, venue management, or related experience, preferably in hospitality, corporate events, or executive-level programming. Proven track record of managing complex, multi-stakeholder events with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.

Possess proficiency in various event management software to support and optimize our operational workflows. Strong cross-functional communication skills with the ability to build trusted partnerships across all levels of the organization. Experience managing vendor relationships and holding partners to high standards of quality and service.

Ability to exercise sound judgment, take initiative, and remain composed under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple events and priorities simultaneously. A guest-first mindset with a passion for delivering exceptional experiences and anticipating stakeholder needs.

Comfortable working onsite at the Ranch, including occasional evenings, weekend work and MOD shifts when required. Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options.
