The Material Handler receives and moves boxed product/cases to the appropriate locations within the Distribution or Fulfillment Center in order to provide the appropriate inventory levels and product distribution for shipping, receiving, storage and order fulfillment. This is a first shift position and supports all facilities on the North Carolina Campus. This process includes, but is not limited to, unloading, loading, movement and storage of pallets, counting, sorting, and operating powered equipment.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Reads work orders or receives and listens to oral instructions to determine work assignments daily.

Takes direction from Distribution Manager and/or Distribution Coordinator/ DC Supervisor.

Loads and unloads cases onto, or from pallets, conveyor, racks, shelves and carts by hand or with the use of powered equipment.

Conveys boxed product to and from designated areas, by hand or with use of powered equipment while observing strict safety procedures.

Adheres to Powered Equipment Maintenance policies when operating powered equipment.

Operates equipment to complete daily assignments: radio frequency (RF) guns, box cutters, belts, hand trucks, pallet jack, forklifts, rabbit, scissor lift and Hi-Lo observing strict safety procedures.

Operates warehouse systems to support continuous work flow which may include more than one of the following:computer (PKMS, Rapid Pick software systems), printer, sorter, swing set, flex conveyor, corrugate baler, bliss machine, labeler, cargo elevator, shrink wrap machine, observing strict safety procedures.

Confirm accuracy of inventory by checking documentation (tier sheets), counts and verifies pallet content.

Observes labels for accuracy, readability and age.

Scan each box and ensure the capture of information.

Observes boxed product for damages and unsuitability to continue on line.

Stacks or assembles boxed product onto pallets using shrink wrap machine to secure load.Move to designated staging area while following strict safety procedures.

Store and retrieve boxed product from locations from heights up to thirty feet (30ft), utilizing Hi-Lo equipment.Sort, arrange and count while operating Hi-Lo observing strict safely procedures.

Participate in and complete all company training programs as it relates to this position, including Safety Training, Cross Functional Training, Power Equipment Certification and readiness assessments.


Experience, Skills, and Knowledge

High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is preferred.

A proven track record in school or work experience utilizing good communication skills and basic mathematical skills.

Must have the proven ability to consistently and independently follow policies and procedures; written and verbal instruction and meet required schedules and/or deadlines.

Overall years of experience may range from 0-3 years, preferably within a distribution/warehousing environment.

Previous experience in a team-oriented environment with an emphasis on high volume, measurable performance and understanding of how individual performance affects others in a team environment.

Ability to perform, and a history of performing, job duties in a safe manner.

Must be willing and able to operate powered equipment and pass certification testing.

Must be willing and able to participate in the Material Handler rotation program as assigned.

Must be willing to work on assignments at all facilities on the North Carolina Campus.

Ability to learn minimal data entry on pre-set templates.

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

Must be able to manage work load based on changing demands.

Perform housekeeping duties necessary to maintain a neat and orderly warehouse environment.

Other duties as assigned.Essential duties are subject to change in order to keep up with new or expanding business models.

Must be able to work all scheduled shift hours to include, but not limited to, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts.

Demonstrates flexibility in meeting unexpected and/or planned work fluctuations and shift schedules changes, up to and including weekends.

The physical demands representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job include working on a continuous basis walk, bend, push, pull and lift up to seventy pounds (70lbs) while practicing proper safety procedures, as well as work in a standing position for extended periods of time.
