Job description

Job Title: Civil Engineer

Job Description

This Civil Engineer role focuses on the design and delivery of complex roadway and highway projects, including grading, drainage, utilities, green infrastructure, work zone traffic control, and site layout for transportation infrastructure. You will develop detailed civil and highway design plans using industry-standard engineering software, prepare technical documentation to support construction and contract activities, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on projects across the New York metropolitan area.

Responsibilities

  • Perform roadway and highway design, including alignment, grading, and drainage for streets, highways, interchanges, and related transportation infrastructure.
  • Design and coordinate utilities and green infrastructure elements as part of civil and transportation projects.
  • Develop work zone traffic control plans to support safe and efficient construction operations.
  • Prepare site layouts and other transportation engineering tasks to meet project requirements and standards.
  • Create civil and highway design plans, profiles, cross-sections, and details using AutoCAD and Civil 3D or MicroStation.
  • Utilize inRoads and OpenRoads for civil and highway design, modeling, and documentation.
  • Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, specifications, and other contract documents to support project delivery.
  • Support multi-disciplinary design development teams, including architecture, structural, and construction management disciplines, in project execution.
  • Provide engineering support for other related activities as required throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as appropriate for the position to ensure successful project outcomes.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Design experience for civil and highway projects, including roadway and transportation design.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working on civil and highway projects with agencies such as NYCDOT and NYCDDC.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for civil and highway design drafting and documentation.
  • Experience using Civil 3D or MicroStation for roadway and civil infrastructure design.
  • Experience with inRoads and OpenRoads for highway design and modeling.
  • Strong skills in drainage and grading design for transportation and site development projects.
  • Knowledge of transportation design principles and standards applicable to urban infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, cost estimates, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Fundamental understanding of professional engineering practices and standards, with EIT or Professional Engineer credentials referenced as part of the skill set.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience designing streets, highways, interchanges, and railroad sites within New York infrastructure projects.
  • Background in civil design for utilities and green infrastructure features.
  • Familiarity with work zone traffic control design and construction staging.
  • Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams that include architecture, structural engineering, and construction management.
  • Exposure to projects involving bridges, rail transit facilities, streets, highways, utilities, commercial buildings, courts, correctional facilities, office buildings, healthcare facilities, schools, and universities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with project stakeholders and preparing clear technical documentation.

Work Environment

The role is based in an office located in the Financial District, offering a professional setting focused on the design and delivery of transportation and infrastructure projects. During onboarding, you work on-site five days per week to integrate with the team and become familiar with processes and tools. After onboarding, the position transitions to a hybrid schedule, typically 4 days in office and 1 day remote or 3 days in office and 2 days remote, depending on team and candidate preference. You will work with modern engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or MicroStation, and inRoads/OpenRoads while collaborating closely with architects, engineers, and construction management professionals on a wide range of New York infrastructure projects.

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $130000.00/yr.
