Description:

First Response Rail Service is seeking an experienced Railcar Repair Manager to oversee railcar repair and maintenance operations at our Skippers, Virginia facility. This position is responsible for managing daily shop operations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, maintaining high-quality repair standards, and leading a team of railcar repair professionals.

The RCR Manager will play a key role in driving safety, productivity, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence while supporting the growth and success of the facility.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee all railcar repair and maintenance activities.
  • Lead, supervise, and develop shop personnel to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Ensure compliance with FRA, AAR, OSHA, and company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor repair quality, productivity, and turnaround times.
  • Coordinate railcar inspections, repair estimates, and maintenance programs.
  • Schedule manpower and resources to meet customer and operational demands.
  • Maintain accurate repair documentation and reporting.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate procurement of materials and supplies.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to all safety requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and company leadership.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in shop operations and performance.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of railcar maintenance and repair experience.
  • Strong knowledge of railcar inspection, maintenance, and repair practices.
  • Working knowledge of FRA and AAR regulations and standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and maintenance reporting systems.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Previous experience managing a railcar repair facility or repair program.
  • AAR Inspector Certification or equivalent industry certifications.
  • Experience with tank cars, freight cars, and mobile railcar repair operations.
  • Proven ability to improve safety performance, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in an outdoor industrial environment.
  • Ability to walk, climb, bend, lift, and perform duties associated with railcar repair operations.
