Job description

What Role You Will Play In Our Team

We are seeking an experienced engineer with strong knowledge in solids mixing, compounding, and transformation to join our team. This role will support the Carbon Materials team in developing advanced battery products, while also collaborating with extrusion and solids‑handling experts across the polymers technology area. The Carbon Materials Extrusion Engineer will focus on dosing, blending, and high‑temperature extrusion of various solids as within a fast‑paced manufacturing process development environment.

What You Will Do
  • Design engineering solutions for projects involving solids handling and extrusion processes.
  • Optimize existing site systems to improve solids-handling and extrusion‑related safety, quality, reliability, and overall manufacturing capability.
  • Develop new solids-handling and extrusion technologies supporting major initiatives such as Carbon Materials, Lithium, Plastics Recycling, and Coke.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to less‑experienced engineers.
About You Required Skills & Qualifications
  • 5+ years of industry experience in polyolefins solids handling and extrusion operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Hands‑on experience in blending, compounding, extrusion, and pelletization processes.
  • Experience with pneumatic conveying systems for powders, granules, and larger product forms such as polyolefins, polymer additives, refinery coke, minerals, and ores.
  • Strong theoretical understanding of designing novel systems for additivation, compounding, cooling, sizing, and packaging of solids.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience with multi‑level sizing operations including grinding, classifying, or sifting via vibratory, centrifugal, or rotary equipment.
  • Familiarity with railcar and bulk truck loading/unloading systems and equipment.
  • Hands‑on experience with polyolefin pelletizing, particularly using underwater pelletizers.
  • General understanding of rheological properties of polyolefin polymers and their behavior during processing.
  • Familiarity with additive feeding and weighing systems, including loss‑in‑weight feeders, vacuum conveying, and oxygen‑exclusion methods.
  • Working knowledge of dust hazard management, including standards such as NFPA 660, NFPA 654, and NFPA 68.
  • Experience conducting lab and bench‑scale extrusion and solids-handling tests to generate specifications for commercial‑scale equipment.
  • Experience with construction, commissioning, and start‑up of extrusion and solids-handling equipment.
Your Benefits
  • Pension Plan: Enrollment is automatic and at no cost to you. The basic benefit is a monthly annuity to be paid to you in retirement for the rest of your life.
  • Savings Plan: You can contribute between 6% and 20% of your pay and are encouraged to enroll right away. If you contribute at least 6% to your savings plan, the Company will contribute a 7% match.
  • Workplace Flexibility: We have several programs such as “Flex your Day”, providing ad‑hoc flexibility around when and where you work, as well as longer‑term programs such as leaves of absence and part‑time work.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Culture of Health: Programs and resources to support your wellbeing.
  • Employee Health Advisory Program: Provides confidential professional counseling for you and your family, including tools and resources promoting mental health and resiliency at no additional cost to you.
  • Disability Plan: Income replacement for when you cannot work due to illness or injury occurring on or off the job. Enrollment is automatic and at no cost to you.
