Job description

Job Summary:
This full-time position will require the successful candidate to fulfill product transfer orders in accordance with company policy and safety regulations in all related physical inventory management and quality control activities in the safest, most efficient way possible.
Major Responsibilities:
Core transloading operations and safety compliance (80%)
  • Loading and unloading: Transferring goods between railcars and trucks using specialized equipment
  • Use of track mobile, shunt truck, gantrys, and other equipment
  • Conduct switching in yard when required
  • Loading/Unloading, Tying/Untying Loads
  • Working at heights, up to 15'
  • Loading and unloading of goods to and from railcars and monitor inventory levels
  • Abiding by yard rules, safety regulations and use of personal protective equipment PPE requirements
  • Abide by terminals processes and procedures relating to product transfers, quality assurance, safety and operations
  • Complete required training and certifications necessary to perform duties safely and effectively
  • Performing pre- and post-operation equipment inspections and strictly following company safety procedures
  • Working with specific hazards, such as liquid chemicals, and understanding the precautions needed for safe handling.

Administrative, documentation and housekeeping (20%)
  • Completing required paperwork with accuracy, forms, and tickets to accurately track loaded and unloaded materials.
  • Inventory responsibilities; Recording volume totals and entering data into inventory systems to maintain accurate counts.
  • Labourer duites, tidying yard, etc.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area and ensuring the proper storage of tools and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Terminal Manager.

Skills / Functional Knowledge
  • High degree of commitment to safety is required
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs; Climb Railcars, Swing Sledgehammers up to 16 lbs; physically fit.
  • Communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are required in dealing with drivers, clients, supervising staff and directing contractors.
  • Strong team player and able to maintain positive interactions with others
  • Dedicated to getting the job done effectively while meeting established standards of quality, safety and client satisfaction
  • Able to work independent or as a team
  • Attention to detail; completing paperwork accurately and inspecting materials for damage
  • Work cooperatively with others while displaying a positive attitude to further the goals of the company
  • Ability to meet deadlines with accuracy in a fast-paced, multi-task environment.
  • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, sound judgment and initiative

Education / Certification / Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 1-2 years Laborer and/or Railway experience an asset
  • Heavy Equipment operation experience an asset
  • Experience working in an operations-based environment is preferred.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and your own vehicle
  • Experience loading trailers/railway cars is an asset.

Working Conditions:
  • Able to stand or walk for long periods
  • The ability to work in various weather conditions and handle the physical demands of the job
  • The role is performed in a combination of office (10%) and outdoor environment (90%) in various types of weather and environmental conditions.
  • The incumbent must be available to work shifts and weekends when necessary.
  • Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress.
