How much do radiological control inspector jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 29, 2026, the average hourly pay for radiological control inspector in the United States is $21.48, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $17.31 and $24.04 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are Radiological Control Inspectors?

Radiological Control Inspectors are professionals responsible for ensuring safety and compliance with regulations regarding radiation in workplaces where radioactive materials or equipment are used. They monitor radiation levels, inspect facilities and equipment, and enforce safety protocols to protect workers and the environment from harmful exposure. Their duties also include training staff, maintaining records, and responding to incidents involving radiological hazards. These inspectors play a crucial role in hospitals, research facilities, nuclear power plants, and industrial sites where radiation is present.

What is the difference between Radiological Control Inspector vs Radiation Safety Technician?

AspectRadiological Control InspectorRadiation Safety Technician
CertificationsRadiological Control Technician (RCT), Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)Similar certifications, often RCT or RSO
Work EnvironmentInspecting nuclear facilities, laboratories, and industrial sites for radiation safety complianceMonitoring radiation levels, conducting surveys, and assisting in safety procedures
Employer & IndustryNuclear power plants, government agencies, industrial facilitiesHospitals, research labs, industrial sites with radiation sources

Both roles focus on radiation safety but differ in responsibilities. Radiological Control Inspectors primarily perform inspections and enforce compliance, while Radiation Safety Technicians assist with monitoring and safety procedures. They often share certifications and work in similar environments, making them closely related in the radiation safety field.

What are some typical challenges Radiological Control Inspectors face when ensuring regulatory compliance in the workplace?

Radiological Control Inspectors often encounter challenges such as maintaining rigorous safety standards in dynamic work environments, interpreting complex regulations, and ensuring all personnel adhere to proper radiation safety protocols. They must also balance the practical needs of operations with strict compliance, sometimes under tight deadlines. Effective communication and continuous training are essential, as they frequently collaborate with engineers, technicians, and management to address safety issues and implement corrective actions.

What jobs pay $10,000 a month without a degree?

Radiological Control Inspectors typically require specialized training and certifications rather than a traditional degree, and their salaries can reach or exceed $10,000 per month depending on experience and location. High-paying roles in skilled trades, sales, or technical fields often offer such income levels without a college degree, especially with experience and industry-specific skills.

How much do radiological control techs make?

Radiological Control Technicians typically earn between $50,000 and $80,000 annually, depending on experience, certifications, and location. They perform radiation safety inspections, use specialized tools, and often work in industrial or nuclear environments requiring safety training and compliance knowledge.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Radiological Control Inspectors typically do not earn $2000 a day; such high daily rates are usually associated with specialized contractors, consultants, or highly experienced professionals in fields like executive consulting, certain medical specialists, or high-level project managers. These roles often require advanced certifications, extensive experience, and work in high-demand environments. Most standard jobs, including radiological control roles, pay significantly less on a daily basis.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Radiological Control Inspector, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Radiological Control Inspector, you need a solid understanding of radiation safety, regulatory compliance, and health physics, often supported by a relevant science degree or specialized training. Familiarity with radiation detection instruments, dosimetry systems, and regulatory software is essential, as are certifications like NRRPT (National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists). Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and clear communication are vital soft skills for effective inspections and reporting. These competencies ensure regulatory compliance, workplace safety, and the protection of personnel and the environment from radiological hazards.

What type of inspector gets paid the most?

In the field of radiological control, senior or lead inspectors typically earn higher salaries due to their experience, certifications, and responsibility levels. Specialized inspectors with advanced training in radiation safety or nuclear environments tend to have the highest pay among radiological inspectors.
