Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Shop/Diesel Truck Mechanic to join our team. This will be a full time, corporate shop-based role in Marietta, GA, reporting to our Shop Foreman.


If you are a highly self-motivated, detail-oriented individual with a passion for solving problems and leading initiatives, with a desire to bring fresh ideas to strengthen internal and external relationships, please read the responsibilities and qualifications for the position below.


Essential functions include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.


Summary of Duties:


Performs maintenance and repair activities on various pieces of heavy equipment


Essential functions:


  • Diagnose, service, and repair various systems that are found on pieces of heavy equipment such as mechanical and computer electronic controls, air brake systems, transmissions, computer-controlled automatic and 13-speed manual transmissions, high voltage generators, propane powered equipment, and pneumatic systems.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in the equipment and repair.
  • Repair and service track drive sprockets, rails, idler wheels, hard bars, track adjusters, hydraulic reversers, final drives, brake bands, steering clutches, and hydrostatic transmissions.
  • May fabricate, modify, and install special equipment or replacement parts using mills, lathes, welders, torch sets, plasma cutter, and metal cutting saws.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments on such things as fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches; change filters and oil, and lubricate vehicles and motor-driven equipment.
  • Service, diagnose, repair, and maintain speed tandem drive axles with air or tires gas and diesel engines, services valves, fuel filters, and turbochargers, and pressure checks fuel filters, adjust injector heights, fuel racks, governors, etc.
  • Diagnose problems, disassemble units, repair or replace parts, and reassemble units.
  • Repair or replace shoes, pads, drums, hoses, calipers, cylinders, any heavy-duty air brakes.
  • Flush radiator, replace hoses and thermostat, repair or replace radiator and water pump, fan drives, DCA treatment filters, air intercoolers, and oil coolers.
  • Repair and replace driveshaft, differential, axle, manual, automatic, and sophisticated computer-controlled transmissions, clutches, transfer cases, power take-off systems, transmission reversers, all-wheel-drive steering axles, and final drives.


Required Education and Experience:


  • At least 2 years of experience


WORK ENVIRONMENT:


  • Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the outdoors area with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions.
  • Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and occasional working in cramped and awkward positions.
  • Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather extreme heat and cold, high/ low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.


This job operates in a busy shop/garage setting. The role routinely uses standard shop equipment such as tools, lifts, compressors, jacks, jack stands, oil drain and oil caddies, battery chargers and jumpers, engine hoists, brake lathes, presses, etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Some weekend hours are available as well.
