Job description

Our Chalk River location is looking for Group 1 Radiation Surveyors to foresee radioactive hazards that may lead to the spread of contamination and to be acquainted with all established practices and procedures for radiation protection. What will you be doing!

  • Performing daily routine radiation and contamination surveys of work areas.
  • Establishing barriers and posting signage as required based on survey results.
  • Identifying radiological hazards that may lead to the spread of contamination or affect the life and health of employees.
  • Providing job oversight from a radiological aspect and providing radiological guidance and advice to workers.
  • Discussing Radiation Protection issues with staff in the work area and presenting recommendations assertively and diplomatically.
  • Initiating and establishing any desirable control measures in addition to those normally established.
  • Providing radiological advice and guidance to other Radiation Protection Staff and workers.
  • Utilizing Radiation Protection documents to support decisions and guidance in the work area.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in a field relevant to the position, or equivalent formal education OR Secondary School Graduation Diploma OR Equivalent and normally has more than 3 years pertinent experience OR the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
  • Experience
    • Experience in the nuclear industry is preferred.
    • Supervisory skills and experience are considered an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing to influence and/or educate various work groups.
    • Strong ability to improvise and to deal adequately with rapidly changing conditions.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of all instruments used in radiation work and of all radiation protection procedures.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:

  • Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
  • This position is part of the USW 1568 and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the USW 1568 Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you'll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
