Radiology Tech Assistant
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
  • The Rad tech assistant is responsible for providing transportation of patients (ages pediatrics to geriatrics) to the Radiology department; also responsible for assisting technologists in performing transfers or ambulation to prevent falls; preparing patients and equipment for therapy and performing tasks to maintain department in orderly condition.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Properly identifies self/Properly identifies patient using two identifiers.
  • Logs out patient.
  • Obtains hands off communication form.
  • Communicates with nursing personnel upon patients return to his/her room.
  • Transports patient in a safe, friendly manner; aware of their needs.
  • Properly obtains, returns, and secures oxygen tanks.
  • Prepares patients and equipment for therapy.
  • Protects patient information and maintains confidentiality.
  • Assists technologists in performing transfers or ambulation to prevent falls.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have on-the-job training in transfer techniques and basic patient care.
  • Basic mathematical skills;
  • Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English;
  • Ability to communicate with patients, family, peers and medical personnel.
  • Ability to maintain positive attitude towards patient;
  • Must be able to function under stress caused by emergency situation.

Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • Work requires light duty lifting and ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information with patients, family, peers and medical personnel.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
