Scope of Responsibility:

This position initiates the galvanizing process by receiving steel material and hanging it on a lifting devices (hooks, chains, etc.) onto large industrial racks. This position safely uses forklifts and overhead cranes, as well as lifts product by hand, to move the steel material about the work area.

Essential Duties:

  • Receive material and prepare it to be galvanized
  • Hang steel products up to 75 lbs. on metal hooks, wire or chains and place on the overhead crane either manually or by use of equipment
  • Remove stencils and grease from steel product prior to it going to the pre-treat area
  • Operate heavy equipment in racking area, such as forklifts and overhead cranes
  • Inspect all lifting equipment prior to use (forklifts, cranes, chains, slings, etc.)
  • Inspect all material before galvanizing to ensure material meets all Sabre safety guidelines and procedures and report any issues, damaged products or shortages to Lead
  • Count, weigh or measure products to compare identifying information and variety against bills of lading or work orders
  • Move materials to and from storage or production areas by hand or using forklifts or other equipment
  • Attach identifying tags to product or mark them with identifying information
  • Perform housekeeping activities to keep the work area and equipment clean and organized
  • Additional duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Management

Position Requirements:

  • Ability to understand basic verbal English is required
  • Experience using hand tools, such as a grinder or file, is highly preferred
  • Experience using forklifts and cranes highly preferred
  • Ability to read, write and speak English is highly preferred
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing facility highly preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Regular and timely attendance is required

Physical Requirements:

  • Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, tugging, stooping, bending, twisting, crawling and handling of materials.
  • Position requires manual dexterity, ability to pick/pinch and work with fingers, repetitive motions of wrists/hands/finger, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individual.
  • Effectively and safely utilizes ladders, manlifts, forklifts, overhead cranes, etc. Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Must be able to work in an open environment for long shifts (including weekends) exposed to extreme temperatures, standing entire shift
  • Must have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time and be able to observe and receive information from all relevant sources
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to make general observations of facilities or structures
