What does a race car engineer intern do?

A Race Car Engineer Intern assists race engineers and teams in optimizing the performance, safety, and reliability of race cars. Typical responsibilities include collecting and analyzing data, helping with car setup, supporting testing sessions, and creating technical reports. Interns often collaborate with mechanics, drivers, and engineers to find ways to improve speed and efficiency. The role provides valuable hands-on experience in motorsports engineering and helps interns understand the complexities of race car dynamics and team operations.

What types of projects or tasks can a race car engineer intern expect to work on during their internship?

As a Race Car Engineer Intern, you can expect to be involved in a variety of hands-on and analytical tasks, such as assisting with vehicle setup, data acquisition, and analysis during testing sessions. You'll likely support senior engineers by preparing parts, running simulations, and documenting performance data. Collaboration is key—you'll work closely with mechanics, drivers, and other engineers to solve technical challenges and improve car performance. These experiences provide valuable insight into real-world motorsport engineering and can pave the way for future roles within the racing industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a race car engineer intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Race Car Engineer Intern, you need a solid background in mechanical or automotive engineering principles, typically supported by progress toward a relevant degree.
