Trackworker/Backhoe Operator

Location: Based out of Frankfort, KY (Nationwide Travel Required)
Pay Range: $22.00 – $25.00 per hour
Job Type: Full-time

Road & Rail Services is a national leader in specialized logistics and rail support services. Our Track Maintenance division is built on skill, precision, and accountability. We take pride in maintaining safe, efficient rail infrastructure - and in hiring experienced railroad professionals who understand the demands of track work.

We are seeking an experienced Trackworker/Backhoe Operator with a background in railroad track maintenance (MOW) to support projects across multiple locations. This is a travel-based position requiring near 100% travel, working on railroad track projects throughout the region and potentially nationwide.

This role is ideal for candidates who are comfortable being on the road, working in different locations, and supporting rail operations wherever needed.

You will play a critical role in maintaining track integrity, supporting safe rail operations, and ensuring all work meets FRA regulations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Safely operate backhoes, excavators, loaders, and other heavy equipment used in railroad track maintenance
Perform railroad track maintenance including tie replacement, rail repair, surfacing, and general track work
Follow all FRA regulations and company safety policies
Identify track defects, geometry issues, and safety concerns
Work closely with crew members to complete projects efficiently and safely in active rail environments


Required Qualifications:
Minimum 2+ years of railroad track maintenance (MOW) experience required
Experience operating backhoes and heavy equipment in a railroad or track environment required
Strong understanding of railroad safety standards and FRA compliance
Ability to travel extensively (near 100%) and work away from home regularly
Ability to work outdoors in a physically demanding environment
Strong safety mindset and job-site awareness


Preferred:
Experience with tampers, regulators, or other rail-specific equipment
Experience working in Class I or short line railroad environments


Work Environment & Travel:
This is a continuous travel position
Projects may be located across multiple states
Employees should expect to be away from home for extended periods
Work is performed in outdoor rail environments in varying weather conditions
