Job description

Electronics Test and Evaluation Lab Technician (Senior or Lead)

Company:

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for a Senior or Lead Electronics Test and Evaluation Lab Technician (Level 4 or 5) to join our team at the Starfire Optical Range on Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The role supports the Air Force Research Lab in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities using ground-based telescopes.

Starfire Optical Range is a world class research facility with recognized achievements in adaptive optics, enabled by the quality, enthusiasm, and dedication of our entire team. Our team consists of engineers and technicians in all disciplines required to plan, design, integrate, and test complex optical, electronic, laser systems to achieve research objectives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plans, conducts and documents complex tests on products, systems, components, materials, and manufacturing processes and technologies.

  • Designs, fabricates, builds and analyzes test systems, materials, components, software and methodologies.

  • Coordinates test requirements, determines test methods and capabilities.

  • Conducts system test preparations by guiding system integration, fabrication, modification, setup, checkout and teardown.

  • Performs test article configuration control.

  • Conducts complex tests, analyzes data and documents results; participates in test readiness reviews.

  • Identifies and resolves test anomalies.

  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex laboratory and test-related problems.

  • Coordinates test laboratory activities, maintenance and repairs, and personnel training.

  • Assists government agencies, safety and hazardous materials teams in the event of emergencies.

  • Assists engineers and senior technicians with efforts such as optical alignment.

  • Serve as a crew member for tests, being trained in optics and lasers, telescope operator, camera operator, or atmospheric operator.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering technician, construction or facilities maintenance disciplines

  • 5+ years of experience working with powered hand tools or equipment

  • Willing and able to work variable shifts; including days, evenings, nights and weekends

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Active Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance

  • Experience assembling lab prototypes, chassis wiring, and mechanical mounting based on schematics, drawings, and system requirements

  • Experience operating complex computer-based analysis or control systems

  • Experience with high power lasers

  • Experience with optical alignment techniques

  • Experience with electronics/electrical systems

  • Experience with mechanical systems
