Thrift Store Donation Associate Position Summary:

The Thrift Store Donation Associate is responsible for greeting donors and ensuring a friendly, welcoming drop-off experience. Other responsibilities include unloading donations from vehicles, sorting and categorizing items, issuing receipts, and maintaining the general upkeep and organization of the donation reception area.

The Thrift Store Donation Associate must hold to the mission, vision, and core values of The Foundry. The Associate must be willing to sign The Foundry's Statement of Faith. The Associate reports directly to the General Manager and collaborates with the Assistant Managers regarding daily duties. The Associate is responsible for upholding the policies set forth by the Board of Directors. The responsibilities of the Associate include, but are not limited to, the duties defined in this responsibility description.

Responsibility Description

Customer Service:

· Greet donors warmly and with respect.

· Be friendly and engaging throughout the customer's donation experience.

· Express appreciation for the donations to the donor before they leave the reception area.

· Maintain a calm demeanor during each donor transaction.

· Follow thrift store guidelines to explain why some donations cannot be accepted.

Handling and Sorting Donations:

· Safely unload items from donors' vehicles.

· Request assistance from the Assistant Warehouse Manager when team lifts for heavy items are necessary.

· Inform donors of the QR code option for tax receipts or use an electronic device to capture customer information and email an electronic receipt.

· Sort donations according to the established warehouse process and organize the items into bins, gaylords, or carts.

· Collaborate with the Assistant Warehouse Manager to maintain accurate daily donation counts.

Loading Dock Maintenance:

· Perform general housekeeping duties, including keeping the drop-off lane and loading dock clean, safe, and organized.

Support:

· Provide support to other areas of the thrift store as requested.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education:

· High School Diploma, High School Equivalency, or GED.

Experience:

· Two (2) years of retail or thrift store experience.

· Proven competencies in customer service and organization skills.

Requirements:

· Able to use a computer/tablet to perform job duties.

· Must be able to work required overtime as assigned by the General Manager, including but not limited to evening shifts and special events.

· Physical demands of this position include extensive standing and walking, lifting to 50 pounds regularly, and pushing and pulling bins, racks, and carts to 1,000 pounds with assistance.

· You must be able to bend, stoop, crouch, and climb a step ladder approximately three feet in height to reach materials.

· You must be able to work in a retail and warehouse environment, including exposure to dust and fluctuating temperatures.

· You must express yourself verbally and accurately, and loudly or quickly convey verbal instructions.

· You must hear and understand speech in person, via telephone, or other devices, and recognize work-associated sounds such as vehicle horns or emergency sirens.

· You must have near and far visual acuity and clear peripheral vision.

· Strong interpersonal skills.

· Proven ability to resolve issues calmly and efficiently.
