What is a Quattro?

Quattro jobs typically refer to positions within companies named Quattro or roles related to the Quattro brand, which could involve fields such as automotive engineering, finance, or consulting. Most commonly, 'Quattro' is associated with Audi's all-wheel-drive technology, so jobs may involve automotive design, testing, or sales for vehicles equipped with Quattro systems. The specific responsibilities and requirements will vary based on the industry and company context. Candidates interested in Quattro-related roles should research the particular company or product line to understand job expectations. These roles often require technical expertise, industry knowledge, and a passion for innovation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Quattro, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Automotive Technician specializing in Audi Quattro systems, you need a solid background in automotive technology, mechanical diagnostics, and manufacturer-specific training, often supported by an automotive technician certification (e.g., ASE). Familiarity with Audi diagnostic tools (such as VAG-COM/VCDS), computerized maintenance systems, and advanced AWD drivetrain components is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication with clients and team members make someone stand out in this role. These skills ensure accurate diagnostics, efficient repairs, and customer satisfaction in a highly technical automotive environment.

What are common challenges faced by Quattro engineers when working on all-wheel-drive systems, and how can they be addressed?

Quattro engineers often encounter challenges integrating all-wheel-drive systems seamlessly within varying vehicle platforms while maintaining performance and efficiency. Balancing power distribution, minimizing drivetrain losses, and ensuring system durability under diverse driving conditions are key concerns. These challenges can be addressed through close collaboration with design, testing, and software teams, as well as leveraging advanced simulation tools and real-world testing to refine system calibration. Continuous learning and adaptation to emerging technologies are important for success in this dynamic engineering environment.

Job description

Description:

ABOUT DELTA BLACK AEROSPACE

Delta Black Aerospace is a U.S.-based OEM redefining unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for mission-critical defense applications. Founded and led by former Warfighters and senior industry Subject Matter Experts, Delta Black is developing the RAIDER 330 — a patented Group 3 UAS delivering Group 4 capabilities. The RAIDER 330 features true Hybrid-Electric Propulsion (HEPS), Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) and Extreme Short Takeoff and Landing

(E-STOL). Headquartered in McKinney, TX, Delta Black moves at 5x the pace of traditional defense primes.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Delta Black Aerospace is seeking a Mechatronics and Systems Integration Engineer to serve as the critical connective tissue across the RAIDER 330 hardware and software stack. This role is responsible for ensuring that mechanical, electrical, avionics, propulsion, and payload subsystems function as a coherent, mission-capable system. You will lead bring-up, integration, and functional verification of the full UAS — from bench testing individual subsystems to integrated ground runs and handoff to flight test. This is a role for a technically broad engineer who thrives at system boundaries and drives tasks to closure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

» Own end-to-end system integration of the RAIDER 330, coordinating across mechanical, electrical, avionics, pro-pulsion, and payload subsystems

» Lead hardware-software integration for flight control systems, autopilot (Quattro FMS, or similar) and sensor fusion (IMU, GPS, optical, radar altimeter)

» Develop and execute integrated systems test plans, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) test regimes

» Manage Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and ensure compatibility across all subsystem interfaces (mechanical, electrical, data)

» Support bring-up and troubleshooting of hybrid-electric propulsion integration, motor control, and VTOL lift system checkout

» Develop diagnostic tools, ground control station (GCS) configurations, and telemetry monitoring frameworks

» Work closely with propulsion, avionics, and payload vendors to resolve integration issues and validate performance

» Establish and maintain configuration management and build records for integrated vehicle configurations

» Support mission simulation and rehearsal, including GPS-denied environment testing and payload hand-off procedures

» Contribute to systems engineering artifacts including FMEA, hazard analysis, and verification matrices

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

» Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline

» 4+ years of experience integrating complex electromechanical or aerospace systems

» Hands-on experience with autopilot/flight control systems and GCS tools (Vigilant Spirit, Mission Planner, QGroundControl, or equivalent)

» Strong programming skills in Python and/or C/C++ for integration scripting, data analysis, and embedded systems

» Experience with sensor integration, data fusion, and embedded communications protocols (CAN, UART, SPI, I2C)

» Demonstrated ability to debug across hardware and software simultaneously

» Excellent systems thinking and ability to trace failures across subsystem boundaries

» Strong documentation habits for test results, anomaly reports, and configuration records

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

» Experience integrating VTOL or hybrid-propulsion UAS platforms

» Background with Quattro FMS autopilot customization and tuning

» Familiarity with ROS or similar middleware for sensor integration

» Experience with GPS-denied navigation solutions (optical flow, SLAM, radar)

» Knowledge of DO-178C, DO-254, or equivalent avionics software/hardware standards

» Active Secret or Top Secret clearance

» Experience supporting aircraft from integration through first flight

SECURITY CLEARANCE

Active Secret clearance preferred; must be able to obtain Secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship required.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

» Competitive base salary commensurate with experience; equity participation available

» Full medical, dental, and vision benefits

» 401(k) with company contribution

» Rapid advancement opportunities as Delta Black scales toward production

» Direct collaboration with former Warfighters, propulsion innovators, and avionics specialists

» Travel to test facilities, partner sites, and government customer locations
