Position Details
Title Tenured Faculty Position in Quantum Sensing at Indiana University Appointment Status Tenure Department IU Bloomington Vice Provost For Faculty Affairs Location Bloomington Position Summary
As part of a major, multi-year effort to expand research activities in Quantum Information Science through the Faculty 100 initiative, the College of Arts and Sciences at IU Bloomington invites applications for a tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor rank to begin in the Fall of 2027. Appointment will be in the Department of Physics.

We are particularly interested in applicants working in the areas of quantum sensing and quantum detection experiments, especially those who intend to establish a tabletop or benchtop research lab at IU Bloomington. Candidates who conduct experimental research complementing our activities in atomic/molecular/optical physics, quantum information science and technology, quantum photonics, precision measurement, nuclear and particle physics, or quantum sensing for biophysics/biomedical sciences will be given preference. We encourage applications from scholars who apply interdisciplinary perspectives across a variety of these domains, who may collaborate with colleagues across the IU Quantum Science & Engineering Center, the Center for Exploration of Energy and Matter, or the multi-institutional Center for Quantum Technologies.

Qualifications: Applicants should possess a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field. A substantial record of research accomplishments, appropriate to rank, is required, and applicants should be committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Responsibilities: Candidates are expected to sustain an active, externally funded research program, to engage undergraduate and graduate students through effective teaching, and to participate in service to the university and the profession. Candidates should be able to work effectively in a team environment. To advance scholarly innovation and excellence, we especially welcome candidates who bring broad professional backgrounds and a wide range of perspectives to their research, teaching, and/or mentoring.
