Quantum Computing Engineer Remote information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Quantum Computing Engineer (Remote), and why are they important?

A Quantum Computing Engineer requires strong knowledge in quantum mechanics, computer science, and mathematics, often supported by a degree in physics, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with quantum programming languages (such as Qiskit or Cirq), cloud-based quantum platforms, and proficiency in Python are typically necessary, and certifications in quantum computing can be advantageous. Excellent problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and effective remote communication are essential soft skills for success in a distributed team environment. These competencies enable engineers to develop innovative quantum algorithms, collaborate efficiently, and drive advancements in this rapidly evolving field.

What are the typical collaboration dynamics for a remote Quantum Computing Engineer, and how do teams coordinate on complex projects?

As a remote Quantum Computing Engineer, you’ll typically work as part of a multidisciplinary team that may include physicists, software developers, and hardware engineers. Collaboration often relies on version control systems, virtual meetings, and shared documentation platforms to coordinate complex research and development tasks. Regular syncs, code reviews, and agile methodologies are commonly used to ensure everyone stays aligned despite geographic distances. Effective communication and a proactive approach to problem-solving are key, as much of the work involves iterative testing and collective troubleshooting. This structure allows for both deep individual focus and consistent team progress on groundbreaking projects.

What does a Quantum Computing Engineer do when working remotely?

A Quantum Computing Engineer working remotely designs, develops, and tests algorithms and software that leverage quantum computers, often collaborating with teams using virtual tools. They may focus on quantum programming, error correction, or integrating quantum solutions with classical systems. Remote engineers access quantum hardware through cloud-based platforms, participate in research, and stay current with advancements in quantum technology. Effective communication and self-management skills are essential for success in this remote role.

What is the difference between Quantum Computing Engineer Remote vs Quantum Software Developer?

AspectQuantum Computing Engineer RemoteQuantum Software Developer
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Physics, Computer Science, or related field; knowledge of quantum algorithmsBachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related; programming skills in quantum languages
Work EnvironmentRemote, often collaborative with research teams or tech companiesRemote or on-site, focused on developing and testing quantum software
Employer & Industry UsageTech companies, research labs, startups in quantum techSoftware firms, tech companies, research institutions

While both roles involve quantum computing, Quantum Computing Engineers Remote focus on designing and developing quantum hardware and algorithms, whereas Quantum Software Developers primarily create software applications and simulations. Both roles often require similar educational backgrounds and can be performed remotely, but their core responsibilities differ in hardware versus software development within the quantum industry.

Job description

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Staff Field Engineer - Quantum Applications in Netherlands.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of quantum computing and help organizations translate cutting-edge quantum technologies into real-world business impact. In this highly strategic and customer-facing role, you will bridge the gap between advanced quantum algorithms, enterprise applications, and commercial adoption across industries such as finance, healthcare, materials science, logistics, cybersecurity, and AI. You will collaborate with scientists, engineers, product teams, and business leaders to design proof-of-concepts, shape solution strategies, and guide customers from exploration to production-ready implementations. The role combines deep technical expertise with consulting, architecture, and communication skills in a fast-evolving innovation environment. You will contribute directly to advancing quantum applications while influencing product direction and industry adoption. This position is ideal for a quantum computing expert who thrives on solving complex challenges, engaging with customers, and driving emerging technologies into practical use cases at scale.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead technical and strategic discussions with enterprise clients, helping them identify opportunities to apply quantum computing technologies within their business domains.
  • Translate complex business challenges into quantum application architectures and proof-of-concept initiatives in collaboration with quantum application and engineering teams.
  • Demonstrate and communicate the value of quantum technologies across areas such as optimization, biosciences, chemistry, materials science, generative AI, cybersecurity, and financial modeling.
  • Guide customers through the full solution lifecycle, from ideation and discovery workshops to focused experimentation, validation, and production integration.
  • Collaborate closely with product management and engineering teams to share customer insights, influence roadmap priorities, and improve quantum application offerings.
  • Develop technical assets, presentations, demonstrations, and solution frameworks that showcase the capabilities of quantum products and applications.
  • Support business development, developer relations, and marketing initiatives to increase awareness and adoption of quantum computing technologies globally.
  • Participate in industry conferences, customer engagements, and technical events as a subject matter expert and technology evangelist.
  • Contribute to the development of new algorithmic intellectual property and quantum application strategies when rotating into application-focused initiatives.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of professional experience in quantum computing, advanced algorithms, technical consulting, scientific computing, or related technology fields.
  • Master's degree or PhD with specialization in Quantum Computing, Quantum Algorithms, Complexity Theory, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with quantum computing SDKs and frameworks such as Qiskit, Cirq, Classiq, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of quantum algorithms and their practical applications across enterprise use cases including optimization, machine learning, simulation, and computational sciences.
  • Proven ability to engage with customers, translate technical concepts into business value, and guide technical decision-making in customer-facing environments.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to interact effectively with both technical and executive audiences.
  • Experience working across multiple technologies and architectures with strong full-stack technical understanding.
  • Demonstrated track record of published research, thought leadership, or industry contributions related to quantum technologies or advanced computational methods.
  • Experience leading technical workshops, events, or proof-of-concept engagements is highly valued.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for customer meetings, conferences, and collaborative activities.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation package including base salary, performance-based incentives, and equity opportunities
  • Flexible work arrangements with remote, hybrid, or onsite options across Europe
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage including medical, dental, and vision plans
  • Generous paid time off and company holidays
  • Parental and adoption leave support
  • Home technology stipend to support remote productivity
  • Retirement savings support and additional insurance programs where applicable
  • Opportunity to work on pioneering quantum technologies with global enterprise impact
  • Collaborative and inclusive work culture focused on innovation, autonomy, and professional growth
  • Exposure to cutting-edge research, international conferences, and industry-leading technical projects
