Quantum Biology information

What jobs can you get with a mathematical biology degree?

A mathematical biology degree can lead to roles such as computational biologist, bioinformatics analyst, research scientist, or data analyst in healthcare, biotech, or academic research. These positions often require skills in data analysis, programming, and understanding biological systems, and may involve working with modeling software or statistical tools.

What does a quantum biologist do?

A quantum biologist studies how quantum phenomena influence biological processes, such as photosynthesis, enzyme activity, and bird navigation. They often use tools like spectroscopy and quantum modeling to explore these interactions, contributing to advancements in biophysics and molecular biology.

Which is the highest paying job in biology?

In biology, the highest paying roles are often in specialized fields such as biomedical research, pharmaceutical executive positions, or healthcare leadership like medical directors. These roles typically require advanced degrees, extensive experience, and strong leadership skills, with salaries often exceeding six figures annually.

What is the difference between Quantum Biology vs Biophysicist?

AspectQuantum Biology
Required CredentialsAdvanced degrees in biology, physics, or related fields; research experience in quantum mechanics applications in biology
Work EnvironmentResearch laboratories, academic institutions, biotech companies
Industry UsageEmerging field focusing on quantum effects in biological systems
Common Search IntentUnderstanding interdisciplinary roles combining quantum physics and biology

While Quantum Biology explores quantum effects in biological processes, a Biophysicist studies the physical principles of biological systems, often using similar credentials and work environments. Quantum Biology is more specialized, focusing on quantum phenomena, whereas Biophysicists have broader applications in biophysics research.

What is the salary of a quantum biologist?

The salary of a quantum biologist varies depending on experience, education, and location, but typically ranges from $60,000 to $120,000 annually. Entry-level positions may start lower, while experienced researchers or those in academia and industry can earn higher salaries, often requiring advanced degrees and specialized skills in quantum physics and biology.

A BASIC FUNCTION:
Howard University in Washington DC is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral
Fellow to investigate the genetic underpinnings of health disparities and develop strategies to address them. This may involve studying genetic variations associated with increased or decreased susceptibility to certain diseases or conditions, exploring the impact of genetic factors on treatment responses and medication efficacy, or examining the role of genetic and environmental interactions in health disparities.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:
N/A
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Howard University in Washington DC is seeking to hire a postdoctoral
scholar to investigate the genetic underpinnings of health disparities and develop strategies to address them. Analysis of nucleic acid and protein biophysics, computational biology models, information-theoretic measures of network connectivity, computational bioinformatics models, and neurobiological systems will be required.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
As a postdoctoral researcher in genomics and quantum biology, your responsibilities will include :
  • Designing studies, conducting genomic sequencing (including whole genome sequencing, Sanger sequencing, and single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping).
  • Analyzing data, interpreting findings, and publishing and presenting results. Additionally, you will work collaboratively with others to address health disparities in research.
  • Research projects in this field often require a multidisciplinary approach, combining genomics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, and social sciences to comprehensively analyze the complex contributing factors to health disparities.
  • As part of your research, you may work with large-scale genomic datasets, such as genome-wide association studies (GWAS), next-generation sequencing data, or electronic health records, to identify genetic variants or biomarkers that may be associated with health disparities.
  • In addition to your research responsibilities, you may be assigned other related duties as needed.
  • Like other postdoctoral positions, the typical duration of a postdoctoral position in genomics and health disparities ranges from one to three years, depending on performance and renewal of funding.
  • During this time, you are expected to advance your research skills, publish your work, and build a strong foundation for your future career.
  • Participate actively and communicate effectively in a leadership role during lab/group meetings, seminars, and scientific conferences. Coordinate on-site and virtual meetings/lectures as needed.

CORE COMPETENCIES:
  • Manage time and project(s) well with personal initiative. Mentor trainees and perform job-related administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Travel as needed to collaborate on project objectives.
  • Write well scientifically, including in the preparation of regular reports, manuscripts for publication, and grant proposals.
  • Organize seminars and lecture series for the project and for the wider NHGC and QBL communities.
  • Be responsive to communications from the PI and able to take direction.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field such as genomics, genetics, molecular biology, ecology, bioinformatics, public health, microbiology, biophysics, quantum biology, or a related discipline. Computational experience in Chimera, PyMOL, or similar biomolecular modeling software and programming experience in Python, Fortran, and/or C desired.
