Job Title: Market Research Consultant

Location: Memphis, TN Onsite

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Market Research Consultant to lead complex primary research initiatives that inform brand, marketing, communication, and growth strategies. This role will independently manage research programs from initial design through data collection, analysis, reporting, and presentation of actionable recommendations.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in qualitative and quantitative research, advanced analytical methods, executive-level storytelling, and the ability to manage multiple high-visibility projects with limited supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple strategic primary research initiatives from initial planning through execution, analysis, reporting, stakeholder communication, and project archiving.

  • Design qualitative and quantitative research studies, questionnaires, discussion guides, sampling plans, and analytical approaches.

  • Manage sophisticated research initiatives involving areas such as brand health, audience segmentation, creative testing, concept testing, copy and message testing, and longitudinal tracking.

  • Apply advanced methodologies such as discrete choice, conjoint and choice-based conjoint, MaxDiff, chip allocation, ethnography, online discussion boards, web usability research, neuroscience-based research, and motivational or emotion-based testing.

  • Analyze complex datasets using SPSS or another statistical analysis platform, along with Excel.

  • Evaluate survey design, sampling methodology, panel recruitment, data weighting, and other factors affecting research quality.

  • Integrate findings from multiple research sources to identify patterns, develop strategic recommendations, and determine future research needs.

  • Translate complex research findings into clear, visually compelling presentations using charts, tables, infographics, and other illustrative techniques.

  • Create PowerPoint presentations and deliver research findings and recommendations to senior and executive-level audiences.

  • Advise marketing and business stakeholders on how research findings should influence audience strategies, brand initiatives, program development, campaigns, and communications.

  • Collaborate across functions to develop coordinated research approaches that address stakeholder needs and support broader strategic priorities.

  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders, external research vendors, and agency partners.

  • Monitor sociocultural trends and macroeconomic conditions that may influence long-term business, marketing, and research strategies.

  • Establish and maintain strong practices for research methodology, fieldwork, analysis, and insight development.

  • Support research budget administration, including project cost management, invoice processing, and reconciliation.

  • Mentor and coach colleagues and provide leadership and feedback on significant research projects.

  • Potentially provide direct supervision, career development, and succession-planning support for one or more team members.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Business Administration, Market Research, Statistics, Marketing, Data Science, or a related field, or at least 12 years of equivalent professional experience in an insights function.

  • Deep knowledge of qualitative and quantitative market research methodologies and techniques.

  • Experience independently leading complex primary research engagements from research design through final recommendations.

  • Experience developing questionnaires, discussion guides, sampling plans, research reports, and executive presentations.

  • Strong understanding of survey design, sampling methodology, panel recruitment, and weighting techniques.

  • Experience across a range of advanced research methods, including segmentation, brand equity analytics, concept testing, copy and message testing, conjoint or choice-based research, and other customized methodologies.

  • Hands-on experience with SPSS or another statistical analysis platform.

  • Advanced proficiency with PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Experience using sophisticated data-mining and statistical-analysis techniques to develop data-driven business and marketing recommendations.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex data and ideas into clear, engaging visual stories for executive and senior-level audiences.

  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, project management, communication, persuasion, and stakeholder-management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple research initiatives simultaneously with a high degree of autonomy, accuracy, and attention to detail.

  • Experience collaborating with internal business stakeholders and external research vendors or agencies.

  • Proven ability to identify business problems, develop research approaches, and recommend practical solutions.
