Quant Developer Intern information

What is a quant developer intern?

Quant Developer Interns are students or recent graduates who work with quantitative teams at financial institutions or hedge funds to support the development and implementation of mathematical models and software for trading, risk management, or financial analysis. They typically assist with coding, data analysis, and model validation using programming languages like Python, C++, or Java. Interns in this role gain hands-on experience in applying quantitative techniques to solve real-world finance problems, often working closely with quantitative analysts and developers. The position is ideal for those interested in quantitative finance, programming, and applying mathematical concepts to financial markets.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a quant developer intern?

To thrive as a Quant Developer Intern, you need a solid background in mathematics, statistics, and programming, often supported by progress toward a degree in a quantitative field. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java, and experience with tools like MATLAB or financial data APIs, are typically expected. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help set candidates apart. These skills and qualities are essential for developing, testing, and communicating complex quantitative models that support investment and trading strategies.

What types of projects and daily tasks can a quant developer intern expect to work on?

As a Quant Developer Intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects that involve developing, testing, and optimizing quantitative models used in financial trading or risk management. Daily tasks often include coding algorithms, analyzing large datasets, and collaborating with quantitative analysts and senior developers to implement research ideas. You may also be involved in troubleshooting issues, streamlining code, and contributing to team meetings to discuss project progress and technical challenges. This hands-on exposure helps build both your technical and financial industry knowledge while allowing you to contribute meaningfully to the team's goals.

What is the difference between Quant Developer Intern vs Quant Analyst Intern?

Software Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

Quadrillion Labs, Inc

New York, NY โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision

Posted 9 days ago

Job description

About us
Quadrillion is a startup building Qualia, an agentic research platform (think Jupyter or VS Code, but with AI agents that do the actual research). Our users are ML researchers, quants, and data scientists who use Qualia to run an entire research project from a single prompt.
We're a 12-person team in NYC, backed by $18.3M from Conviction, Audacious, Bloomberg Beta, ex/ante, and Wes McKinney (creator of pandas). We have one of the strongest NYC AI teams, with backgrounds from HRT, Google Research, Citadel, and Jane Street.
The role
Your role will be the same as any Quadrillion full-time engineer's: shipping real product changes, fixing customer bugs, and building new features.
We're hiring interns for a couple of our groups:
  • Agent Engineering builds the core infrastructure that our agents run on: orchestrating agent loops, building the sandboxed environments where agents run experiments against real data, designing the APIs and tooling researchers touch, and scaling the infrastructure that keeps it fast and reliable.
  • Product builds an incredibly strong UI for agents to run in and for humans to interact with, both as a Mac/Windows app and on the cloud.

What you'll do
  • Build effective systems for agent orchestration. You'll engineer the core system that drives Qualia, improving its ability to reason over long horizons, run parallel experiments, and manage its knowledge.
  • Scale environments for agent experiments and training. Help us build the sandboxed compute where agents run complex, high-performance experiments, and scale it to tens of thousands of concurrent deployments.
  • Expand what agents can do and where they run. Build and deploy the tools and integrations that connect Qualia to customers' data sources and external systems.

Required qualifications
  • Strong full-stack or backend engineering experience, especially with Python
  • Comfort working in unfamiliar codebases
  • Ability to move quickly in a zero-to-one environment

Who we're hiring
We're hiring a strong intern with significant engineering chops in either Python or React. We prefer sophomores and juniors but are open to frosh. You must be a current undergraduate at a US or Canadian university.
About this role
We work in-person 5 days a week out of our office in Midtown Manhattan. We cover generous benefits for employees, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, lunch and dinner covered, and other varied stipends.
We pride ourselves on a company culture that values a diversity of thoughts and opinions.
About Quadrillion
Quadrillion Labs builds Qualia, an agentic research intelligence platform that does real computational research - running experiments, analyzing data, and surfacing insight for the people who do this work at the highest level.
We're a team out of Stanford NLP, HRT, Citadel, Jane Street, Google Research, and Harvard Med, building for an audience that looks a lot like us. We've raised ~$18M from Conviction, Audacious, Bloomberg Beta, ex/ante, and angels including Wes McKinney, the creator of pandas. We're ~10 people in NYC, scaling to ~15 in the coming months.
We think this is the Industrial Revolution moment for research, and we're building the team to define what comes next.
Equal Employment Opportunity
Quadrillion Labs is an equal opportunity employer. We make hiring and employment decisions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law. We are committed to building a team where talented people can do their best work.
If you need a reasonable accommodation during the application or interview process, let us know at careers@quadrillion.io.
