Quality Risk Specialist information

What does a quality risk specialist do?

A Quality Risk Specialist is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks that could impact product quality or compliance within an organization, particularly in regulated industries like pharmaceuticals or manufacturing. They develop risk management plans, perform risk assessments, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that quality standards are maintained throughout processes. Their work helps organizations meet regulatory requirements, improve operational efficiency, and prevent costly errors or product recalls.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a quality risk specialist?

To thrive as a Quality Risk Specialist, you need a solid background in quality management systems, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory compliance, often supported by a relevant degree or industry certifications such as Six Sigma or ISO 9001. Familiarity with risk management software, audit tools, and documentation systems is commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you identify potential risks and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These competencies are crucial for ensuring product and process quality, minimizing compliance issues, and safeguarding organizational reputation.

What are the main challenges a quality risk specialist faces when implementing risk management strategies across different departments?

A key challenge for Quality Risk Specialists is ensuring consistent risk management practices across various departments, each with unique processes and risk appetites. This often involves balancing regulatory compliance with operational efficiency, while also facilitating effective communication between teams like production, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs. Building strong cross-functional relationships and providing tailored training can help overcome resistance to new protocols and ensure everyone understands the value of robust risk management. Staying updated with evolving standards and adapting strategies accordingly is also essential for long-term success in this role.

Job description

As part of the ICN group, you will help the Deloitte US Firms remain independent - unbiased and free from conflicts of interest - when providing services to clients. Independence requirements are defined by specific sets of policies, external rules, and regulations, so maintaining both the independence of the Deloitte US Firms and personal independence is critical to the business and reputation of Deloitte.

Recruiting for this role ends on 09/30/2026.

Work you'll do

Specialists in our group have a challenging opportunity for high visibility and frequent consultation with senior technical partners and leaders in addressing independence-related issues. As a specialist, you will participate in a team responsible for our centralized system for monitoring independence from attest clients. You will also be an active participant in handling the timely update and completion of independence checks, processes, and systems. In addition, you will assist in consultations with engagement teams to evaluate and apply independence policy. The success of the role involves:

  • Working closely with partners and engagement team members on policy consultations and business requirements involving the independence systems.
  • Undertaking independence processes and assigned projects.
  • Conducting the periodic review and update of risk and independence data and processes (including process improvement).
  • Attending policy-setting meetings aimed at developing guidance to address emerging issues.
  • Drafting internal correspondence aimed at growing awareness of the auditor independence rules and implications of new U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) rulings.

A successful candidate would possess these skills:

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and quality of work product
  • Ability to build and sustain professional relationships
