Job description

At ConMet, product quality is a key pillar of our success, and our commitment to our customers. We are seeking a hands-on, forward thinking Quality Manager for our Northwest plants in Clackamas, OR and Vancouver WA.

The Quality Manager directs and coordinates all quality assurance issues to ensure enhanced quality and consumer acceptability with ConMet’s product and achieves this objective with a focus on maintaining cost effectiveness. Serves as the primary contact for all customer quality related concerns and manages the plant quality group to ensure key activities are completed efficiently and effectively. This role specifically covers our die cast and machining plants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews daily on-the-floor quality related issues with other applicable department management to determine need for corrective actions.
  • Reviews incoming returned product from customers as either nonconforming product or returns for restock.
  • Works directly with customers on review of nonconforming product to include issuance and management of corrective actions (8D’s), as required, and visits to the customer facilities to report on actions taken to address quality concerns.
  • Works with suppliers on incoming product quality issues to include issuance of supplier corrective actions, as necessary.
  • Manages the company’s Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) to ensure completion and submission of full PPAP packages to customers.
  • Ensures the dimensional review of incoming supplier product is completed as part of the supplier PPAP process and provides feedback to the ConMet Corporate Supplier Quality Group on results.
  • Manages the company’s IATF16949 system as the designated “Management Representative” to ensure compliance to TS requirements and maintenance of system documentation.
  • Reviews customer documentation to include Supplier Quality Manuals and Packaging Guidelines; incorporates customer requirements into plant system documentation to ensure compliance.
  • Ensures required testing (i.e. dimensional, X-Ray, material, chemical) is completed per customer requirements.
  • Maintains awareness of the relevance and importance of activities and how each contributes to achieving quality objectives.
  • Works safely and without injury.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university; plus five to ten years of experience in quality assurance with similar production environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in an IATF 16949 certified manufacturing environment is required.
  • Experience with SAP preferred.
Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Knowledge of aluminum manufacturing principles and processes.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving skills, and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
