Job description

Hohl Industrial Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead and oversee our Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions supporting shop and field operations. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, and our Quality Management System (QMS), while driving continuous improvement throughout our operations.

The ideal candidate will have experience in steel fabrication, industrial construction, welding, quality systems, and inspection processes, with the ability to lead quality initiatives, manage documentation and compliance programs, and collaborate with internal teams, customers, and third-party inspectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities for fabrication and field operations.
  • Manage and provide oversight to the Quality Inspection Team (CWI's).
  • Oversee implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company's Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements, including AISC, AWS, ASME, ASTM, and other applicable specifications.
  • Develop and implement project-specific quality plans, inspection plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Provide technical direction and support to QC Inspectors, including review of inspection results, testing documentation, and final release records.
  • Coordinate and oversee third-party inspections, non-destructive testing (NDT/NDE), and customer quality requirements.
  • Manage internal audit programs, including audit scheduling, findings, corrective actions, and effectiveness reviews.
  • Lead non-conformance and corrective action processes, including root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and trend reporting.
  • Partner with management to review quality metrics, identify improvement opportunities, and support risk management initiatives.
  • Maintain control of quality documentation, records, revisions, and distribution in accordance with company procedures.
  • Ensure document control processes are maintained, including revision tracking, approvals, record retention, and accessibility of current documentation.
  • Support supplier and subcontractor quality evaluations, performance monitoring, and compliance requirements.
  • Oversee calibration and control of inspection and measuring equipment.
  • Support employee training, competency verification, and quality awareness initiatives.
  • Interface with customers, auditors, certifying agencies, project teams, and internal departments regarding quality requirements and performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technical field, or related discipline preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Significant experience in quality management, QA/QC, steel fabrication, industrial construction, or related manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of welding, fabrication processes, and construction quality requirements.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, layouts, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to interpret and apply industry codes and standards including AISC, AWS, ASME, and ASTM.
  • Experience managing or supporting a Quality Management System (QMS), preferably within an AISC or ISO-based environment.
  • Experience with internal auditing, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (active or previously certified under AWS QC1).
  • Previous NDE/NDT Level II certifications (VT, MT, PT, UT preferred).
  • Experience with quality software systems and documentation platforms.
  • Experience with VPT, Tekla EPM, FabSuite, or similar systems.

Work Environment:

This position will work in both office and shop/field environments. The role may require occasional travel between company locations, fabrication areas, and project sites. Exposure to active fabrication and construction environments may include noise, dust, uneven surfaces, and varying weather conditions. Proper safety practices and PPE requirements must be followed.
