Job Description:
Gelest, Inc., part of the Mitsubishi Chemical Group, is seeking a Quality Control Chemist to join our Quality Control team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to our mission of delivering innovative specialty chemical solutions to customers worldwide.
The Quality Control Chemist plays a key role in ensuring products meet established quality standards through analytical testing, inspections, and data evaluation throughout the production process. This position supports the quality of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products while providing opportunities to work with and expand knowledge of a variety of analytical instrumentation and laboratory techniques.
Principal Accountabilities:
  • Analyze specialty monomers, polymers, and other specialty chemical products to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Perform analytical testing using instrumentation including HPLC, GC, GPC, Karl Fischer, UV-Vis, FT-IR, spectrophotometry, and wet chemistry techniques.
  • Interpret and document analytical results accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Follow Quality Control laboratory procedures, ISO standards, and safety requirements during daily operations.
  • Investigate laboratory non-conformance events and assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Communicate testing results, issues, and priorities effectively with QC management and cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain laboratory records, reports, and notebooks in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a technical resource for QC laboratory processes and analytical methods.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Experiences:
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related scientific field, minimum of 2 years' experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of analytical techniques and instrumentation including HPLC, GC, GPC, UV-Vis, FT-IR, Karl Fischer, potentiometric titrations, spectrophotometry, and kinematic viscometry.
  • Ability to safely handle and dispose of hazardous chemicals, including toxic, flammable, corrosive, and lachrymatory materials.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical and numerical data.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, maintain accurate documentation, and work within ISO quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and communicate issues in a timely manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, professional, and respectful work environment.
  • Familiarity with the ISO Quality Management System preferred
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
  • Wear personal protective equipment as needed.
  • Interest in working 2nd shift: Four (4) 10-hour shifts, Monday-Thursday, 12:30 PM - 11:00 PM preferred

Pay Transparency
  • The salary range for this position is $27.00 (entry level) - $35.00 per hour. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
