Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Lab Technician to be based out of Hobart, IN. Reporting to the Lab Manager, this person will be responsible for testing each sample thoroughly, and aid in any maintenance, developmental projects, and calibration needed across the lab.

What you'll do:

  • Collect, receive, identify, and prepare samples from Atkore‑manufactured products for laboratory testing, ensuring proper labeling, handling, and traceability
  • Perform mechanical, physical, electrical, or material testing in accordance with approved laboratory procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements
  • Prepare test specimens, fixtures, and equipment setups per defined instructions to ensure repeatable and accurate test execution
  • Accurately record test data, observations, and results in laboratory records, logs, and electronic systems in accordance with quality and record‑control requirements
  • Follow established laboratory procedures and quality requirements in support of ISO/IEC 17025‑compliant testing activities
  • Assist with inspection, basic verification, and upkeep of laboratory equipment, including supporting calibration activities and maintaining equipment logs
  • Identify and promptly report test irregularities, equipment issues, safety concerns, or procedural deviations to laboratory engineering or management
  • Support test scheduling and coordination activities by preparing samples, test setups, and documentation to meet project timelines
  • Assist laboratory engineers with non‑routine, developmental, or investigative testing under defined direction
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient laboratory workspace, including proper storage of samples, tools, and equipment
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities related to laboratory processes, test execution, documentation accuracy, and efficiency
  • Support internal and external audits by providing test records, demonstrating procedures, and responding to questions within the scope of assigned responsibilities
  • Adhere to Atkore’s safety policies and core values of Accountability, Integrity, Respect, Teamwork, and Excellence in all aspects of daily work

What you'll bring:

  • High School diploma or technical certification required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or a related discipline preferred
  • 1–3 years of experience working in a laboratory, manufacturing, quality, or test environment supporting industrial or engineered products
  • Ability to perform testing and measurements in accordance with documented procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements
  • Experience handling test samples, preparing specimens, and maintaining sample identification and traceability
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized methods and instructions consistently
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with Autodesk Fusion is a plus
  • Ability to work safely in a laboratory or shop environment, including handling tools, fixtures, and test equipment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams

  • All these activities require some level of physical strength as well as the use of hard material cutting saws.

Within 3 months, you'll:

  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Become familiar with Atkore products, laboratory scope, and applicable standards
  • Learn laboratory equipment, safety protocols, and draft procedures
  • Gain an understanding of your teammates.

Within 6 months, you'll:

  • Independently perform testing and support development of SOPs and test methods
  • Partner with lab engineer to identify short- and long-term process improvement ideas.
  • Contribute to ISO/IEC 17025 readiness and internal assessments

      Within 12 months, you'll:

      • Operate independently as a key contributor to the laboratory
      • Create and update reports, training materials and documentation.
      • Understand and recommend changes to drive continuous improvement.

      As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $46,800 - $64,350. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
