Job Title: Quality Inspector

Job Description

The Quality Inspector performs validation activities to ensure materials, components, and shipments meet strict space-flight quality standards. This role focuses on in-process and final inspections of electrical and mechanical products at the piece-part, sub-assembly, and assembly levels within receiving, manufacturing, and integration areas. The Quality Inspector supports quality assurance initiatives by upholding workmanship standards, generating nonconformance reports, and contributing to audits and training within the quality team.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed inspections on electrical and mechanical components at the piece-part, assembly, and sub-assembly levels to ensure compliance with space-flight quality standards.
• Conduct in-process and final inspections in receiving, manufacturing, and integration areas to verify that products meet specified requirements.
• Uphold quality standards and workmanship practices in assigned work centers by learning and applying process specifications and established quality workmanship standards.
• Perform in-process and final inspections on circuit card assemblies under magnification in accordance with NASA 8739 or IPC workmanship standards.
• Inspect box-level assemblies and support environmental testing to confirm products meet all applicable quality and performance criteria.
• Perform in-process and final inspections on cable and wire harnesses, including thorough review of associated product build documentation.
• Generate nonconformance reports (NCRs) for discrepancies discovered during inspection processes, documenting defects accurately and clearly.
• Review nonconformities and provide feedback to NCR authors on coding selections, defect descriptions, and other key attributes, and provide insights to review boards such as PMRB, MRB, or FRB to support disposition and root cause and corrective action activities.
• Perform audits of work areas to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and AS 9100 procedures and Lean Manufacturing principles.
• Conduct in-depth reviews of product build documentation for configuration audits to determine whether as-built configurations meet as-designed requirements.
• Act as a safety representative during critical and hazardous operations, promoting safe practices and adherence to safety procedures.
• Assist in developing training materials for the quality assurance group to support consistent inspection practices and standards.
• Develop training material for the assigned QA group and keep it current with applicable standards and procedures.
• Train and mentor new hires or less-experienced personnel in at least one skill identified on the PA skills matrix for the assigned area of work.
• Confirm that acceptable quality standards and workmanship practices are consistently applied in assigned work centers.
• Use inspection tools, such as micrometers and other precision measuring devices, to verify dimensional and mechanical conformance.
• Utilize Microsoft applications and internal systems to document inspection results, nonconformances, and audit findings accurately.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support overall quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of experience in manufacturing or inspection of electronic components or assemblies.
• Proven experience performing quality inspections on electrical and mechanical components at the piece-part, sub-assembly, and assembly levels.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering documentation, including drawings, parts lists, inspection plans, and supplemental instructions.
• Hands-on experience with in-process and final inspection activities in a manufacturing or aerospace environment.
• Familiarity with NASA 8739 or IPC workmanship standards for circuit card assemblies.
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS 9100 quality management system requirements.
• Ability to perform audits of work areas for compliance with documented procedures and Lean Manufacturing principles.
• Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and related inspection tools.
• Ability to generate clear and accurate nonconformance reports and document inspection findings.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies in product build documentation and physical hardware.
• Competence with Microsoft applications and the ability to learn new computer programs and applications quickly.
• Effective communication skills to provide feedback on nonconformities and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Capability to work under magnification for detailed inspection of circuit card assemblies.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience inspecting cable and wire harnesses, including review of associated product build documentation.
• Experience in aerospace, NASA-related, or high-reliability electronics environments.
• Experience supporting environmental testing of assemblies and verifying test-related quality requirements.
• Exposure to Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Experience mentoring or training new hires or less-experienced personnel in quality or inspection activities.
• Familiarity with review boards such as PMRB, MRB, or FRB and participation in disposition or root cause and corrective action processes.
• Ability to act as a safety representative during critical and hazardous operations.
• Experience developing or contributing to training materials for quality assurance teams.

Work Environment

The clean, organized setting supports detailed work under magnification for circuit card assemblies and precise measurement tasks using instruments such as micrometers. Work is structured around established procedures, quality standards, and safety protocols, with regular audits and configuration reviews integrated into daily activities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dulles, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
