What are Quality Engineer Interns?

Quality Engineer Interns are students or recent graduates who assist quality engineers in ensuring that products and processes meet established standards and specifications. They typically work under supervision to conduct tests, analyze data, and help identify areas for improvement in manufacturing or service processes. Their work contributes to maintaining product quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction while providing them with valuable practical experience in quality assurance and control.

What does a quality engineer intern do?

A quality engineer intern supports quality assurance processes by assisting with inspections, testing products, and documenting defects. They often learn to use tools like statistical analysis and quality management systems while gaining experience in ensuring product standards and compliance.

Is 20 an hour good for an internship?

For a Quality Engineer Intern, $20 an hour is generally considered above average for internships in many regions, especially if the role involves technical skills like testing, data analysis, or process improvement. However, internship pay varies based on location, industry, and company size, so it's important to compare with local standards and consider the experience gained.

Is a 3.0 GPA good for internships?

For a Quality Engineer Intern position, a 3.0 GPA is generally considered acceptable by many employers, especially when combined with relevant coursework, technical skills, and internship or project experience. While some competitive internships may prefer higher GPAs, a 3.0 can still be sufficient if other qualifications are strong and the candidate demonstrates a solid understanding of quality assurance principles and tools like Six Sigma or root cause analysis.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Quality Engineer Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Quality Engineer Intern, you need a foundational understanding of quality assurance principles, process improvement, and basic engineering concepts, often supported by progress toward a degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as statistical analysis software, quality management systems (QMS), and measurement equipment is typically expected. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills for this role. These competencies are essential to ensuring product quality, identifying process improvements, and supporting the overall effectiveness of the engineering team.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a Quality Engineer Intern expect during their internship?

As a Quality Engineer Intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects such as assisting with process audits, analyzing product defects, and helping to develop and implement quality control procedures. Typically, interns collaborate closely with experienced engineers and production teams to collect data, identify trends, and recommend improvements. You may also participate in root cause analysis or help prepare documentation for compliance purposes. These hands-on experiences are designed to build your understanding of quality standards and manufacturing processes, setting a strong foundation for future roles in quality engineering.

What does a QA intern do?

A QA intern assists in testing software or products to identify defects and ensure quality standards are met. They may execute test cases, document issues, and learn testing tools and methodologies under supervision to support the quality assurance process.

What is the difference between Quality Engineer Intern vs Quality Assurance Intern?

Job description

Company Description
Job Description
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and storm water, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system's 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC) currently has a portfolio of capital projects valued at $35B, and another $13.6B projected over the next 10-year commitment plan. The projects BEDC implements allows DEP as a whole to continue to operate and maintain an exemplary water supply system.
Our In-House Design (IHD) directorate provides design and engineering services to meet operations' needs in a manner consistent with BEDC's core values of safety, schedule, quality, and customer service. IHD supports projects from the capital project initiation process through preliminary design, design, procurement construction, and finally with the turnover to operations. IHD's Design Services division includes Architectural, Site Civil, Structural, Process Mechanical/HVAC, Water Tunnel Mechanical Systems, and Electrical discipline sections. Each design section prepares design and construction documents including engineering plans and specifications for the construction of water supply, sewer, and wastewater treatment infrastructure. IHD projects are typically of the highest priority for the Agency. IHD's Engineering Services includes the Quality Assurance, Laboratory Services, Specifications/Standard Operating Procedures, Sustainability, and BIM/CADD sections. The Engineering Services division focuses on project's sustainability, resiliency, laboratory material testing, quality reviews and inspections, standardization of documents, project delivery standards and uses current BIM/CADD technology to streamline engineering design processes.
The Structural section continues the DEP's proud legacy of designing and managing the construction of New York City's entire water supply and wastewater infrastructure. Tapping into decades of internal experience, applying tried and true analysis methods, and utilizing modern design techniques (like finite element modeling, [FEM]), the Structural Section is tasked with creating structural bid documents including drawings and specifications supported by Structural Calculations. Projects include water tunnels and shafts, distribution chambers, pump stations, treatment plants, and other subsurface and surface structures. The Structural section also provides design services during construction (DSDC) and advises and assists other IHD sections with their structural engineering design needs. This section regularly coordinates with BEDC's other sections, DEP's operating bureaus, and DEP's outside engineering consultants as well.
BEDC seeks to hire two Civil Engineering Interns to support the Structural section, located in our Lefrak Office in Queens, NY. Under direct supervision of the Lead Design Engineer, the selected candidates will assist in the implementation of capital projects through the design and construction phase by preparing engineering documents including drawings, calculations, and specifications for large, complex projects for water supply and wastewater facilities. Tasks may include preparing said engineering documents for civil site development of water supply facilities, water tunnels, wastewater pumping stations, wastewater treatment systems, and other miscellaneous facilities. Specific work assignments may also include, but are not limited to, conducting investigations and field visits, reviewing shop drawings, and requests for information; preparing and completing change order documentation; assisting in project schedule development; communicating and coordinating with other engineers and stakeholders; and documenting issues/resolutions in issues logs.
**** Only those applicants with permanent Civil Service status as a Civil Engineering Intern or who have taken the DCAS Civil Service Exam for Civil Engineering Intern (Exam No. 6116) are eligible to apply to this JVN. If you do not have permanent civil service status as a Civil Engineering Intern or who have taken the DCAS Civil Service Exam for Civil Engineering Intern (Exam No. 6116), please do not apply to this position as you will not be considered for an interview. ****
